Abel Balboa, Sr. passed away on August 16, 2017 at the age of 91. He was born on October 20, 1925 in Agua Dulce, Texas to Antonio and Maria Balboa, Sr. He worked for the Texas Highway Department and retired after 33 years of service. Abel was a World War II Veteran. He enjoyed working cattle and roping the wildest ones; breaking horses and racing them was also his delight. He worked for several ranches around the area and was known as “El Cowboy” by many. He was the cowboy of cowboys, the real McCoy. He got to own three ranches in his lifetime and living out in the country was his greatest joy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Guadalupe Serna Balboa; parents, Antonio Balboa and Maria Alvarado Balboa; sons, Rene Balboa, Ruben Balboa, and Mario Balboa; grandsons, Benjamin Balboa Resendez, Roel “Roy” Balboa, and A.J. Perez; granddaughters, Marcelina “Marcy” Balboa Perez and Cassandra Perez; brothers, Pedro Balboa, Adan Balboa, Ramiro Balboa, Antonio Balboa, Jr. and Ismael Balboa; sister, Orfalinda Balboa Vela.
Abel is survived by his sons, Abel (Maggie) Balboa, Jr., Hector (Juanita) Balboa, and Rolando Balboa; daughter, Lydia Balboa; 18 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brothers, Juan Balboa, Joe (Rosie) Balboa, and Guadalupe Balboa; sisters, Evangelina Balboa Cadena and Evigaela Balboa Perez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive condolences on Friday, August 18, 2017, at Treviño Funeral Home, 120 E. Front St., from 5 to 9 in the evening; where a Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. A chapel service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Treviño Funeral Home at 10am with Rite of Committal and Interment to follow at Alice Cemetery.
