Abelardo "Lalo" G. Rodriguez

Abelardo "Lalo" G. Rodriguez, age 89, passed away, peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 20, 2015. He was born, January 2, 1926 and raised in Alice, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rodrigo Sr., and Bernarda Rodriguez; sister, Glafira Rodriguez, and Minnie Rodriguez. Abelardo served with honor in World War II, as a Seabee in the United States Navy. He married Maria Silva on September 27, 1947. He had numerous dedicated jobs throughout his career: a taxi driver with the City of Alice, bus driver and a custodian for Alice Independent School District; and a Mechanic. He was also a lifelong member of the VFW Auxiliary Post. He enjoyed dancing, being a Handy man, drinking coffee at Dena's and spending time with his family. Lalo will be dearly missed. He leaves behind his loving wife of 67 years, Maria S. Rodriguez; children, Maria Inez (Ramiro) Guerra, Bennie (Joe) Rodriguez-Aguilar, Normalinda R. (Martin) Gomez, Abelardo "Hito" (Bethzaida) Rodriguez Jr., Jose Modesto (Elena) Rodriguez; brothers, Rodrigo (Hilda) Rodriguez Jr., Armando (Yolanda) Rodriguez; sisters, Cristina Rodriguez, Elodia (Dimas) Amador, Soila Gonzalez, Maria Concepcion (Daniel Sr.) De La Garza, Lupita (Claudio) Soliz; grandchildren, Emilia Luna (Tony) Vasquez, Ramiro (Jessica)Guerra Jr., Randy Guerra, Roel (Huong) Guerra, Roxana (Steve) Guerra, Linda (Aaron) Farnon, Lisa (Mark) Solis, Jackie (Matt) Walker, Victoria (Jacob) Waits, John (Natalie) Aguilar, Erica (Nick) Harral, Jessica Aguilar, Luz Marivel (Rudy) Salinas, Lisette Inez (Steven) Sandoval, Abelardo (Aida) Rodriguez III, Alejandro (Elizabeth) Rodriguez, Alberto Rodriguez, Lucas Rodriguez, and Belen Rodriguez; numerous great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. The family will be receiving friends on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Trevino Funeral Home-Alice, 120 E. Front St., from 4 pm to 9 pm; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7 pm. Rites of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January, 24, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10 am; burial will follow at Roberson Collins Memorial Cemetery.
