Adolfo "Sonny" Chapa, Jr

Adolfo Chapa, Jr. was born on November 9, 1960, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the age of 63.

Sonny was a devoted father, faithful son, loving brother and uncle, along with a great friend to many. He was funny, friendly, and spirited. These words encapsulate a man whose laughter was infectious, whose friendship was invaluable, and whose spirit was unbreakable. He was a lifelong fan of rock’n’roll music, Dallas Cowboys football, and Houston Astros baseball. He attended Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston, Texas then dedicated himself to a career in the trade of upholstery. Alongside his parents, they owned and operated East Texas Manufacturers of Fine Furniture from the late 80’s up to 2023.  Sonny was raised in Houston, Texas but lived most of his life in Woodville, Texas. He had a passion for music and loved listening to everything from country to rock and roll. He enjoyed traveling to antique shops and attending car and truck shows. He never turned down an invitation to a buffet of barbecue crabs or barbecue ribs! If you weren’t a Dallas Cowboys fan, you probably didn’t want to watch a game around him and his best friend, Papa Chapa.

To carry on his memory, he is survived by his significant other and love of his life, Karen Ivy, who rarely left his side during his recent health struggles. He also leaves behind his mother, Dora Ramos Chapa, and two children, Olivia Chapa (Melissa) and Alex Chapa (Sky). His first grandchild, Cora Chapa. Siblings, Irene and husband, Ronnie Martin, and Irma Chapa. Nephews, Joseph Walker Saenz and Jake Saenz. He had a bond with James Ivy, his wife Rose, and their beautiful children that was unmatched and he beamed with joy to talk about all of Karen’s children and grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by Adolfo Chapa, Sr.

He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always entertained by his sarcasm and love for those he held close to his heart and those who went to spend time with him. Sonny's wit was as sharp as a tack, and he navigated life with a remarkable blend of humor and heart. He wore his name like a badge of honor, and true to his nickname, he shone brightly and warmed the spirits of everyone around him.

As we bid farewell to Sonny, we know he would insist we do it with a smile rather than a tear. Let's honor his memory by living life with a zest that would make him proud, laughing a little louder, and loving a little stronger. Adolfo "Sonny" Chapa Jr.'s legacy is one of joy, love, and laughter—a legacy that will continue to echo through the stories he leaves behind and the memories we'll treasure forever.
