Alice Faye Lewis, of Rockport, Texas, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2014. Alice was born on August 4, 1939 to Helen Adams, who preceded her in death. However, she let everyone know her real age was "39 One More Time," even after her children passed the age of 40. Alice was united in marriage to the love of her life, Bobby Gene Lewis, on August 26, 1954 in Beeville, Texas. Bobby recently shared with his children that Alice is the sole reason he works so hard. Shortly after the birth of their first child, Bobby was a typical teenager who refused to work. After Alice took the baby and left Bobby to live with her mother, Bobby vowed to get a job and win her back. When she came back a few months later, he promised himself that he would have a job every day for the rest of his life because he never wanted to take the chance of losing the love of his life again. He kept that promise, and they were married for 60 blissful years, producing 7 children and a lifetime of happiness. A consummate mother, wife, and homemaker, Alice was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her large circle of family and friends. She especially loved the Christmas Holidays, decorating her tree, cooking fruit cakes and pralines, and enjoying the company of her family. She also loved gambling in Las Vegas and traveling to Coushatta for gambling trips with her husband, Bobby. In her spare time, she loved working on Search and Find puzzles, spending time with her family, reminding them that she knows everything. Alice spent most of her adult life working as a caregiver. As a nurse's assistant she provided care and laughter to patients in nursing homes and to those receiving home healthcare. Thereafter she dedicated her life to helping terminally ill patients who were in hospice care, treating them as people, caring not just about their ailments, but also their hopes, their pasts, and their families. She likewise committed her life to taking care of her own mother until the very end. Alice continued to help people in need by making regular donations to the American Red Cross, MD Anderson, Shriner's Hospital, Disabled Veterans, and many more organizations. Alice leaves behind her loving husband of 60 years, Bobby Gene Lewis, and her children, Frieda Jean Lewis, Barbara (Frank) Ross, Helena (Jolly) Lewis, Mary Lewis, Brenda (Earl) Foreman, and Liquita Faye Lewis. She also leaves behind those that she raised as her own children, Linda Heard, Oliver Tolliver, and Deborah Bright, as well as 26 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren, brothers and sisters, Leroy Hillyer, Jr., Jessie Marie Doggett, Mabel (Fred) Henderson, Jasper (Geneva) Jones, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and her baby Cocker Spaniel, Prissy Lewis. She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen B. Adams; father, Jesse Jones; son, Bobby Lewis Jr.; sister, Dorothy Jones; and her favorite Cocker Spaniel, Cujo Lewis. All who knew her loved her. She will be dearly missed.
