Amalia Munoz Avalos, a beacon of love and gentleness, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2024, in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 80. Born on October 9, 1943, in Raymondville, Texas, to Eloisa Morin Munoz and Rufino Munoz, Amalia lived a life marked by kindness, a nurturing spirit, and an unwavering dedication to her family. Amalia's journey through life was one of joyous dedication to those she loved. She was a beloved wife to her late husband, Raul Avalos, and a cherished mother to her children, Eloisa A. Cortez (Filiberto Cortez), Raul Avalos Jr. (Pat) , Reynaldo Avalos (Rosie), and Richard Avalos. Her legacy continues through her adoring grandchildren, Matthew, Erica Lee, Fil Jr., Rey Jr. (Taylor Rackley), Melanie (Jose), Elissa Lynn (Hector Reyes), Frederick, Aaron Lucus, Ryan Anthony (Marissa), Alison, Anissa Rae, Benjamin, and Katherine; her precious great-grandchildren, Sage La Rose, Lilian Riley, Raiden, and Alina Jade. Amalia was the heart of a large and loving family. She is preceded in death by her mother, Eloisa Morin Munoz; father, Rufino Munoz (Cleotilde); her husband, Raul Avalos; her siblings, Lacilla, Sofia, Modest, Willie, John, Gilbert, Joe, and Sam Munoz. Her memory will be treasured by her surviving siblings, Julian and Rufino Munoz, Linda Lemus, Mary Garcia, Lydia Herrera, Dora Null, Rose Williams, Sylvia Torres, and Sofia Browning; brother-in-law, Cresencio Avalos, along with her dearest friend, Virginia Robles, who always stood by her side. Those who knew Amalia will remember her for the love she poured into her passions. Her hands were rarely still, as she found joy in crocheting, creating intricate patterns that warmed the hearts and homes of those she loved. Her garden was a testament to her patience and care, flourishing under her attentive eye. Amalia's cooking brought her family together, her recipes and meals becoming a legacy of their own. Above all, her greatest pleasure was the time spent surrounded by her family, sharing in laughter and love. Her character was the epitome of loving, kind, and gentle. Amalia's presence was a comforting embrace to those around her, and her absence will be felt deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit, characterized by these virtues, will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends.
Amalia’s family will receive condolences on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St. @ Port Ave., from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM; with a Holy Rosary and Liturgy of the Word to begin at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at 9:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A Rite of Committal and Interment to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
