Amando P. Martinez Jr., fondly known as “Mando”, passed peacefully into eternal life while surrounded by his loving family on August 6, 2026, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born in Alice, Texas, on July 14, 1944, Mando's journey of 82 years was filled with dedication to his country and his family leaving a legacy of kindness that touched everyone who had the honor of knowing him and loving him.

Mando's life began in Alice where he attended school. Mando took immense pride in serving his country in the United Stated Air Force with honor and commitment and then retiring with the rank of E-3. He was recognized and awarded numerous medals, such as the National Defense Service Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Good Conduct Award, and Expert Marksmanship, to mention a few.

Mando was known for his warmth, his humble quite spirit, and sincere heart that would define his character throughout his life. Mando's devotion to family was unwavering, he was always attentive to their needs, generously helping with guidance, advice, or food. Mando’s priority was spending fun filled days with his great-grandchildren.

Mando was raised with the values of respect, honesty, punctuality, and hard work, which he demonstrated and practiced while working at The Army Depot. Daily, Mando enjoyed old western movies, listening to oldies by Elvis Presley, hunting, and taking his nephews fishing. He also enjoyed listening to mariachi music by Vicente Fernandez while barbecuing in the company of family and friends, enjoying sweet desserts. His favorite pastime was watching and cheering on his #1 Dallas Cowboys Football Team.

Mando endured the loss of several dear family members who preceded him in death, his parents, Amando Sr. and Lydia Martinez; his son-in-law, Gilbert Cardona; his brother-in-law, Edward Cantu; and his sister-in-law, Glenda Martinez. Their memories and influence were a constant source of inspiration and comfort throughout Mando's life.

Mando is survived by his beloved son, Arman Martinez, and his cherished daughter, Yvonne Martinez. His love extended deeply into the next generations in his granddaughter whom he raised as his own daughter, Amanda (Mario) Zarate; his great-grandchildren, Adrianna, Lilyanne, Mario Jr., and Mando Zarate; his siblings, Roberto Martinez, Herlinda Cantu, Jose Jaime Martinez, and Antonio Martinez; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. His presence was a source of strength and joy, creating bonds that will continue among his loved ones.

Mando's journey was marked not just by milestones but also by countless moments of grace, compassion, and humor. Though words may capture only a part of his spirit, those who knew him will forever remember his integrity, his gentle counsel, and the lasting impact he made on their lives.

Rite of Committal and Inurnment with Full Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi at 11:00 AM where Mando will be laid to rest in the Peace of Christ.
