Amparo Cavazos Lopez passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, while surrounded by her loving family. Amparo better known as Mom, Grandma, Grand Ma Ma, and “Prayer”, was born on January 13, 1937. Amparo lived a life deeply rooted in faith, family, and service.
A seamstress by heart, Amparo's passion for sewing and repairing items was well known and admired. She had a remarkable talent for breathing new life into what others might have discarded, embodying both patience and creativity in her craft. Beyond her work with fabric and thread, Amparo held education in the highest regards. She earned her GED Diploma and often shared her belief that wisdom cannot be attained without knowledge, underscoring the value she placed on learning throughout her life. She supported her children’s and grandchildren’s education, and was their number one fan, their transport driver to and from, throughout all their extracurricular activities.
Amparo's personality was as warm and gentle as it was strong. Known for her wonderful sense of humor, she balanced with humility, simplicity, and quiet dignity. She was deeply respectful, hardworking, honest, loyal, and generous. Her attentiveness to the needs of her family and friends was a testament to her character, shining through countless acts of kindness and support.
A lifelong devout Catholic, Amparo was a pillar of the faith community of Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She faithfully served as a Eucharistic Minister and was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court #2426 and Las Guadalupañas. Amparo lived her life with the virtues of hope, love, and charity, through her actions and deeds. She enjoyed EWTN programs 24/7, and you didn’t dare change the channel.
Amparo held a profound respect and honor for her country, taking great pride in the military service of her husband and sons who all served honorably in the United States Armed Forces. This sense of patriotic duty was a source of pride and reflection for her throughout her life.
Her hobbies and simple pleasures were a reflection of her nurturing and gentle spirit. She loved tending to her garden, growing vegetables, and maintaining a vibrant floral yard. Evenings often found her in the company of family and friends filled with laughter while enjoying a game of bingo or chalupa. Quiet moments gave her peace and contentment while enjoying a good cup of coffee and pan dulce, while fidgeting her bubble wrap.
Family was Amparo’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. She is survived by her daughters, Rosario (Miguel) Casas and Graciela “Gracie” Lopez; her grandchildren who were the joy and light of her life, Clarisa (Albert) Gutierrez, Amanda Lopez (Arturo Guzman), Priscilla (Emmanuel) Olivarez, Delisa (Daniel) Resendez, Carlos Ivan (Brenda) Lopez Jr., Alejandro Lopez III, Isael Manuel Ramirez, Angelica Casas (Paul Gomez), Diego Ramirez, and Allen Yarbrough; 22 great grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Gloria Lopez and Estella Garza; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephew, extended family and dear friends, who will forever remain grateful for the love and care she so freely gave.
Amparo was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Alejandro Lopez Sr.; her sons, David Orlando Lopez, Carlos Ivan (Sandra) Lopez, Alejandro Lopez Jr., and infant Isaac Lopez; her grandson, David Orlando Lopez Jr.; and her siblings, Marcelo Mario Cavazos, Ramon Cavazos, Maria Apolonia Cavazos, Hilda Jasso, Leoncio Cavazos Jr., Luis Guillermo Cavazos, Dagoberto Cavazos, Juan Marcelo Cavazos, Jesus Cavazos, and Maria de la Luz Cavazos.
Amparo’s family will receive condolences on Thursday May 14, 2026, at Trevino Funeral Home Alice, 120 E. Front Street, from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM; with Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM that evening. Rite of Interment and Committal will follow at New Collins Cemetery, where Amparo will be laid to rest in the Peace of Christ.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the nurses and staff at Premier Assisted Living of Alice. Amparo referred to everyone there as her “Butterflies”, reflecting her love for their unconditional love and compassionate care while attending to her needs.
Honoring Amparo as pallbearers are Daniel Resendez, Isael Ramirez, Diego Ramirez, Carlos Lopez Jr., Marcos Barrera, and David Lopez III.
