Angelita “Angie” Longoria Vela, age 102, of Alice, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026.
A lifelong resident of Alice, Angie found joy in sewing, creating cherished clothing and quilts for her family and friends. She loved hosting gatherings, dancing, and bringing people together. With the arrival of her grandchildren, she stepped into her most treasured role, “Momo,” a title she carried with deep love and pride.
Angie dedicated many years of her life to nursing at P & S Hospital in Alice, Texas. After retiring, she continued her calling as a private duty nurse well into her early 80s. Her strong work ethic, compassion, and attentiveness to her patients left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
She was a woman of strong faith, deeply devoted to her family, and lovingly remembered for her incredible baking, which brought comfort and joy to those around her.
She is reunited in eternal rest with her beloved husband, Amador Vela; her parents, Ramon U. Longoria and Josefa M. Longoria; her brothers, Jose Longoria, Ramon A. Longoria, and Jimmy Villarreal; and her sisters, Beatriz L. Cardona and Guadalupe L. Cavazos.
Angelita is survived by her loving family, including her son, Joe A. Vela, and his wife, Norma, of Corpus Christi, Texas. She was a proud grandmother to Janina “Nina” Vela (Marcelo Godines) of Corpus Christi, Texas, J. Adrian Vela II (Kristen) of Plano, Texas, and Cynthia “Cindy” Bielecki (Brian) of Flour Bluff, Texas.
Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Maria Perez (E.J.) of Corpus Christi, Texas, and their children Wesley and Theodora; Jacob A. Vela of Plano, Texas; and Jaxon A. Vela-Mendoza of Corpus Christi, Texas. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia L. Chapa, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.
Angelita’s family will receive condolences on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Treviño Funeral Home Alice, 120 E. Front St, with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM that evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10:00 AM. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at New Collins Cemetery where Angelita will be laid to rest.
Angelita will be remembered for her strength, her faith, and the love she so freely gave. Her love and devotion to family lives on in the generations she helped raise.
