Obituary

Anita Rios Salinas

“Grandma”

Anita Rios Salinas has been called home by the Good Lord on Sunday, May 17, 2026. She was born on July 18, 1939, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Yndalecio Y.R. and Anita M. Rios. She lived a blessed and full life for 86 years. Anita was one of seven children; she grew up with six brothers. She was preceded in death by the father of her children, Jose A. Salinas, and her brothers, Crecencio M. Rios, Robert M. Rios, Cutberto M. Rios and Gilbert M. Rios. She is survived by her children, Joe Richard (Melvina), Julian (Rachel), Ida, Rudy, and Xavier Salinas; as well as her brothers, Albert M. Rios and Indalecio (Margie) M. Rios; and sisters-in-law, Gregoria Rios and Kyoko Rios.

Anita was the proud matriarch of a growing family that included her beloved grandchildren, Lawrence, Jr. (Martha), Laura (Christian), Corina, Xavier, Jr., Jay, Selene; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

She graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1958. She was proud to be a Buc and would often proclaim “Once a Buc, Always a Buc”! She received her ECE Degree (Early Childhood Education) from Del Mar College in 1989.

Affectionately known as “Grandma”, Anita was full of life and had an infectious laugh that could light up any room. She loved God deeply; she was a devoted Catholic and assured of her eternal home in heaven. She believed wholeheartedly in the promise of salvation.

Anita was very kind and beautiful from head to toe, heart to soul. She was witty, hard-working, and fun-loving. She enjoyed family gatherings, taking lots of pictures, talking on the phone with family/friends (before cellphones/selfies were a thing), and enjoyed listening to the oldies station on her radio all day, every day. She also enjoyed walking (took walks on the bayfront often) and kept moving/busy up until a couple weeks ago. She also loved watching football and basketball games. She always rooted for her Houston Texans and her beloved San Antonio Spurs. She had a passion for plants and flowers. Her favorite color was purple, a color known for creativity, spirituality, wisdom and mystery. She was known for her giving heart and she never hesitated to lend a helping hand. Every job she held and every sacrifice she made was for the betterment of her familia. Anita was a prayer warrior, lifting her family daily by name, asking for God’s safety and protection over them.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the unconditional love she gave, the joy she brought, and the way she faithfully loved her familia every single day.

To quote from one of her favorite bands, The Beatles:

"And when the night is cloudy there is still a light that shines on me

Shinin' until tomorrow, let it be

I wake up to the sound of music, Mother Mary comes to me

Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.”
