Antonio Baca, Sr., affectionately known as "Papi," was born on August 5, 1951, in Salome Chihuahua, Mexico, and passed away on July 14, 2025, in Alice, Texas. His journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his family and an impressive work ethic that laid the groundwork for his loved ones' futures.
From a young age, Antonio embodied the values of hard work and perseverance, engaging in various occupations throughout his life. He tirelessly worked the fields, picking fruits and vegetables, embraced the construction industry, and turned his hand to roofing and repairs—skills that he applied to both his professional endeavors and the care of his household. Despite having very little formal education, his intelligence and resourcefulness shone brightly, allowing him to be both a father and mother to his children from an early age.
Antonio was best known for his loving nature and kind spirit. He possessed an innate ability to make those around him feel cherished and respected. His home was always immaculate, a testament to his dedication to family, where he took great pride in preparing meals and ensuring that his children were always neat and clean. His culinary talents were particularly highlighted by his delicious shrimp, which remained a family favorite.
He was not only a caring father but also a man with a delightful sense of humor. Antonio enjoyed life to the fullest; his spirit came alive when dancing to the rancheras of his favorite group, Chalino Sanchez y los Chocales de Pepe Tovar. He found joy in simple pleasures, whether that was watching scary movies on television, scratching off lottery tickets with hope, or savoring a Bud Light while barbecuing.
Among Antonio's proudest accomplishments was raising his children single-handedly, nurturing their education, and instilling in them the principles of strength, confidence, honesty, respect, punctuality, hard work, and family unity. His actions reflected his faith, demonstrating selflessness and attentiveness to the needs of both family and friends.
Antonio is survived by his beloved children—Antonio Chavez, Reinel Chavez, Erika (Horacio) Ponce, Antonio Baca Jr., Flor (Francisco) Ruiz, and Isabel Baca—along with 18 grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will remember him for his generous heart and indomitable spirit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Teodoro and Francisca Baca, and his brother, Martin Baca. Antonio's legacy of love, hard work, and dedication to family will continue to resonate through all who had the privilege of knowing him. His warmth and laughter will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by those he leaves behind.
