Ardalia Davis

Ardalia "Sissy" Davis, passed away on January 21, 2025, in Alice, Texas, the same warm-hearted town where she was born on June 8, 1944, to her parents, Fenly and Gertie Davis Sr. Sissy's life was a testament to the values of family unity, hard work, and compassion that she upheld throughout her 80 years. Sissy is preceded in death by her parents, Fenly and Gertie Davis Sr., and her siblings, Bertha Mae Davis, Mary Lee Davis, and Fenly Davis Jr. Left to cherish her memories are her children, Charlotte Davis, Mark Benard (Dolores) Harris, Derricic (Veronica) Harris, and Eddie David (Patsy) Harris Jr.; her brothers, Willie James (Janie) Davis, Fairies Davis, Ralph F. Davis, and Jerry Lee (Irma) Davis; as well as numerous grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Her memory will be treasured forever by those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Sissy attended the Alice Independent School District, where she formed lifelong friendships. During her years at William Adams High School, she developed a passion for learning, and she carried the discipline and knowledge she gained there throughout her life. Sissy was a devoted and dedicated housekeeper for several families in our community, most notably providing many years of service to the family of Doctor Lopez. Her work extended far beyond her job description as she became a cherished figure in the households she helped maintain. Sissy's interests were as diverse as her generosity, she would organize cake-walk fundraisers, with all the proceeds given to neighbors or friends who needed help to pay utilities, buy groceries, or purchase medication, never counting the cost or sacrifice. Her grandchildren were the love and joy of her life, and she instilled in them the values she held dear: honesty, respect, hard work, and most importantly, family unity. Sissy found pleasure in simple pastimes, such as reading books, watching her favorite television programs like "Miami Vice," and indulging in soap operas. Music filled her home, with the sounds of Blues and Soul holding a special place in her heart. Sissy’s home reflected her meticulous nature, always immaculate and inviting. Her cooking was legendary, especially her fried chicken, cornbread, and homemade yeast rolls. The aroma from her kitchen was a warm embrace to all who entered. She was the epitome of hospitality, always ready to offer advice, a place to stay, or a helping hand. Her kindness extended to free babysitting, not only for her grandchildren, but also for the children of nieces, nephews, and friends. She was always volunteering her time with love and patience. As we say farewell to Ardalia "Sissy" Davis, a gentle soul who touched and enriched the lives of everyone she met through her actions and deeds, giving testimony of her faith and trust in the Lord, we pray that her spirit will continue to be a guiding light to all, and that her memory will be cherished for generations to come.
