Aurora Valdez Garza passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025, at the age of 84. She was born on October 20, 1940, in Laredo, Texas, to her parents Manuel and Aurora Valdez. Vore, as she was affectionately known, was a beacon of joy and generosity throughout her life. Vore was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Elmo Garza Sr.; her parents, Manuel and Aurora Valdez; and her siblings, Consuelo Resendez, Beatrice Martinez, Luz Mata, and Francisca Mata.
Her memory will be cherished by her children, Elmo "Billy" (Melinda) Garza, Duelda B. (Richard) Fiore, Daniel (Eun-Mee) Garza, Gilbrando "Rondo" Garza, Adrian (Tracy) Garza, and Eliot Garza; her siblings, Esperanza "Hope" Aguirre, Elena (Robert) Johnson, Tina (Woody) Hernandez, Lupita (Henry) Flores, and Alicia (Joe) Rodriguez; brothers-in-law, Speedy Martinez and Eddie Mata; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Vore will be truly missed by all who knew her and loved her. Known for her immaculate housekeeping, Vore was a model of cleanliness and order ensuring that her home was not only a place of comfort but also a reflection of her dedication and respect for her family. She was a loving, respectful, honest, hardworking, and faithful individual, always putting the needs of others before her own. Vore was a pillar of strength and encouragement, especially when it came to the education and faith of her children, whom she guided with grace and wisdom. Vore’s involvement in her community was a testament to her generous spirit. As an active member of both Emmanuel Baptist Church and West Main Baptist Church, she shared her faith and compassion with everyone she met. Her volunteer work at Christus Spohn Hospital was another avenue through which she touched the lives of many, offering comfort and kindness to patients and staff alike.
Vore's courageous battle with breast cancer was an inspiration to those around her, and her victory over the disease only added to the legacy of her strength. Vore found pleasure in the simple things, like watching game shows on television, family gatherings, and fellowship with her church family. Her love for these moments of entertainment was just another facet of her multifaceted life. Vore lived her life with an open heart and a steadfast belief in the goodness of others. Her actions and deeds were a constant source of inspiration as she lived out her faith values each day, teaching by example the power of love and the importance of living a life of integrity. Vore's loving and courageous spirit is an inspiration to all who were privileged to have known her, and she will be especially remembered by her favorite bible verse in Philippian chapter 4 verse 13;
“I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”
