Celia Rojas Luna

Celia Rojas Luna passed away peacefully on February 12, 2024, at the age of 76, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on November 5, 1947, in Robstown, Texas, to Ruperto and Eusebia Rojas. Celia will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her. Celia's early years in Robstown were marked by her love for learning and community. She attended and graduated from Robstown High School. In her sophomore year she met Reynaldo in choir class and it was love at first sight. After graduation, Jose was drafted and joined the United States Army. Celia wrote letters to him every day until he was honorably discharged, and shortly thereafter, they were married at St. Anthony Catholic Church in 1970. Theirs is a love story of 53 years.

Celia worked as a Dietitian at Retama Nursing Home where she brought warmth and kindness to the residents. Celia's work was not just a job, it was a calling that she fulfilled with grace and dedication. Celia's love for dance was infectious. She found joy in the rhythms of Tejano music, especially the tunes of Paulino Bernal. Her love for life extended to simple pleasures like creating delicious meals, watching movies, gardening, and observing the delicate dance of hummingbirds from her porch.

Celia's commitment to her faith, her trust in God, and service at St. Anthony Catholic Church were a source of strength and inspiration for all who knew her. Her actions embodied the principles of respect, honesty, and service.

Her love of family was evident in every aspect of her life. As a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend she was always attentive to her loved one’s needs and always full of compassion, understanding, and unconditional love.

Celia was preceded in death by her loving parents, Ruperto and Eusebia Rojas; her brothers, Norman, Alfredo, and Fernando Rojas; and her sisters, Olivia Vernarchich, Severa Reyna, and Alicia Garza. She is survived by her loving husband, Jose Reynaldo Luna Sr.; her son, Jose Reynaldo (Dora) Luna Jr.; her daughter, San Juanita Luna; her siblings, Ruperto Rojas Jr., Oscar Rojas, and Juanita Gonzalez; grandchildren, Melanie Reyna, Vanessa Reyna, Samara Luna, Justin Luna, and Tristan Ricci; great-grandchildren, Briana Oballe, Avalynn Oballe, Mia Oballe, and Adrian Amaya; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends. She will be profoundly missed by those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
