Charles E. Hughes

Chuck Hughes retired from the U.S. Navy after serving his county for 33 years.  He started as an E-1 Seaman Recruit during the Korean War era.  He progressed through the ranks to become a Chief, a Warrant Officer, and finally an O-4 LCDR.  He served throughout the world.  He was awarded many medals including the Vietnam Service Ribbon (7 Stars), Vietnam Gallantry (2), and the National Defense Ribbon (Star).

After retirement he started a new chapter and became a small business counselor.  He helped many businesses in the Coastal Bend to become more profitable.  At the same time the businesses kept more of their hard-earned money to the benefit of the owners and the employees.

Concurrently he became an enthusiastic volunteer for the Coastal Bend Boy Scouts Organization.  He helped Cub Scouts, Webelos Scouts, and Boy Scouts learn lifelong leadership skills and to grow their moral values.

Chuck knew the Divine that resided in his heart and every living human beings’ heart.  He rejoiced at participating in the divine dance of life.  He found solace in the Lord’s Prayer.  Chuck loved the Lord and his family.  He reluctantly moved on.

Chuck died peacefully surrounded by his family and extended family, especially Bethany and Kailey Martinez.  The family wishes to extend many thanks to Father Jonathan Wickham, Rector of all Saints Episcopal Church, for the wonderful beloved prayers.  Many thanks also to the good people of Nurses on Wheels who treated Chuck with respect, dignity, and kindness.
