Curtis “Lance” Beard, age 70, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 20, 2022. He was born on January 1, 1952, in Pampa, Texas, to Matthew and Mildred Beard. Lance was a proud Navy Corpsmen who served in Vietnam in 1974, and later in Okinawa, Japan. He graduated from The University of Oklahoma, in December of 1982, with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and then served for many years as a hospital administrator.
Lance later went on to graduate with a Masters of Divinity from Hardin Simmons University in December of 2005. Lance served as the pastor at First Christian Church in Portland, Texas, and served as the interim pastor in many other churches in the Coastal Bend. When not serving as a church pastor, Lance and his wife attend First Baptist Church Corpus Christi where they have been members for more than 25 years.
Lance was a loving husband to his wife Karen for over 44 years. All who knew Lance, knew how beautifully and completely he loved Karen. Together they had two daughters, Allyson and Leslie. Lance was a loving, patient and gentle father who was an example of God’s love and grace to his daughters.
Lance is preceded in death by his father; Matthew Beard, his mother; Mildred Beard, and his brother; Mark Beard. He is survived by his wife; Karen Beard, daughters; Allyson (Cody McDonald) and Leslie (John Haynsworth), seven grandchildren; Carter, Madelyn, Preston, Lilyan, Evelyn, Braelyn and Harper, his sister; Cynthia Miller, brother; Kelley Beard. Lance was blessed with many other nieces and nephews.
Lance was an incredible man of God who reflected the Lord with this quiet strength and loving service to others. His calming spirit was a comfort to all, and his words brought wisdom and spoke of grace. Lance was a quiet and humble man however, he still carried with him a strength and confidence. He was slow to speak and intentional with his words. When he spoke, it was usually with a wise word, funny joke or compassionate conversation. He chose to serve others his whole life in various ways and met people right where they were without judgment. He was forgiving and taught us lessons about grace and what that should look like. He chose to take interest in the things that the people he loved found important. He loved to know what you were doing and would learn more so that he could talk to you about it. Lance will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Family, friends, and all those who loved Lance are invited to Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at 11 A.M. A time for family and friends to gather will immediately follow at First Baptist Church Corpus Christi in the Welcome Center.
