David Clarence Matson, Sr.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Clarence Matson Sr., who passed away on April 3, 2025. David was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many with his warmth, kindness, and dedication.

David is survived by his only son, David Matson, and his daughter-in-law, Barbara Hanks Matson. He was the proud grandfather of two grandchildren, David Matson III (and his spouse Michael Tinajero Matson) and Jade Sai Matson. He is also survived by his former spouse and the mother of his child, Maria Reyes, and his beloved sister, Sandra Matson Wright. His three loyal dogs, Becca Matson, Alea Matson, and Floe Matson, will also miss him dearly.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Lorene and Francis Matson, and his brother, Dale Matson.

A man of many passions, David had a deep love for music, especially playing guitar. He was a proud member of the Veterans Funky Rock Jazz Band, where he shared his musical talents with fellow veterans. His service extended beyond the stage, as he participated in over 2000 funerals for veterans with the Memorial Services Detachment (MSD), honoring his brothers and sisters in arms with dedication and respect. Additionally, David enjoyed fishing and cherished the moments spent with his dogs at the local dog park, always taking time to appreciate life's simple pleasures.

David’s family will receive condolences Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St., from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM; with Prayer Service to begin at 12:00 PM. Rite of Committal and Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
