Dennis Michael Burk

Dennis Michael Burk was an adventurous spirit who loved the outdoors and people. He passed away at home on Saturday, October 26, 2024, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born June 12, 1947, in Port Edwards, Wisconsin to William H. and Genevieve (Bendrick) Burk, who preceded him in death. He is survived by brother, Tom (Donna) Burk; sisters, Sheila (Bob) Beaurain, Patricia Burk, Mary (Derry) Wright, and Kelly (Scott) Nuckols. He is further survived by nieces and nephews, Jennifer Engel, Susan (Casey) Pierce, Lindy (Dave) James, Adam Burk, Sarah Nuckols, Emily Nuckols, Grace Nuckols; and great nieces and nephews. Dennis moved to Corpus Christi in the 1990’s after earning his nursing degree. He was employed at Memorial Medical Center and Christus Spohn Hospital for two decades. His friendly demeanor and his love of helping people made him a favorite among colleagues and patients alike. Beyond his professional life he was deeply involved in the local community. For over 29 years he volunteered at the Texas State Aquarium where his enthusiasm for marine life and conservation was contagious. He was honored with the “BEST VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR” award which was a testament to his dedication to educating visitors, especially children about the wonders of the ocean. His life in Corpus Christi for the last 31 years was filled with his passion for the outdoors. Whether he was riding his Harley with friends, kayaking through the waves, biking along the coat, or scuba diving, Dennis embraced it with zeal. His adventure stories were often shared with friends over a good cigar, a beer, or a glass of bourbon, and lots of laughter. Those who knew Dennis would probably describe him as not only adventurous but loving and friendly. His connections with people from all walks of life was remarkable and his absence will be deeply felt by the many who knew him. As we say goodbye to this extraordinary brother and friend we will celebrate his legacy of love, laughter, and a life well lived. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to Texas State Aquarium in Dennis’s name would be greatly appreciated. Texas State Aquarium 2710 N.
