Our hearts are broken as we share that our beloved Don Leslie Barr was called home to be with the Lord on July 25, 2026, as he was surrounded by his loving family. Though we will miss him more than words can express, we find comfort in God's unfailing promises, knowing he is now free from pain, embraced by perfect peace, and welcomed into the loving arms of his Savior.

Born on March 16, 1950, in Robstown, Texas, to Danny and Mary Barr, Don spent his childhood in Banquete, Texas where he attended First Baptist Church and grew up surrounded by siblings, cousins, and lifelong friends. Known as "Butch" to his family, he was the big brother who organized backyard ball games, fishing trips, racing adventures, and plenty of harmless mischief that became treasured family memories.

Don proudly served his country in the United States Navy as an Aviation Electrician's Mate aboard the USS John F. Kennedy during the Vietnam era before continuing a life of service as a Deputy Sheriff for San Patricio County. He was especially proud of serving in the K-9 Unit and wore his badge with honor. A man of integrity, quiet strength, and an unmatched work ethic, Don believed in providing for his family and always doing what was right.

Don had a lifelong love of racing, engines, and anything that went fast. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, enjoyed fishing, motorcycles, and spending time at the deer lease. During deer season, there was nowhere he would rather be, and he took every opportunity to be there. He was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. More than anything, however, he loved his family. Some of his greatest joy came from cheering on his children—and later his grandchildren—from the racetrack sidelines. He also enjoyed barbecuing any chance he had. In his retired days you could find him with his fancy karaoke set up, always wanting those around them to sing along or him and his wife Iris singing duets themselves. His steady encouragement, generous heart, and unwavering love will forever be remembered.

Don was preceded in death by his loving parents, Danny and Mary Barr.

He leaves behind his devoted wife of 20 years, Iris Barr; his loving children, Trevor (Crystal) Barr, Desiree (Elizabeth) Lopez, and Justin (Marcella) Barr; his cherished grandchildren, Tylor (Hannah) Barr, Gavin Howe, Caylynn Barr, Landen Howe, Caleb Barr, Ryder Barr, Kynlee Barr, Jett Lopez, and Jovi Lopez; his treasured great-grandchildren, Canaan Kingrey and Thaylor Barr; his loving siblings, Brenda (Ray) Landsiedel, Reed (Lisa) Barr, and Glenda (Richard) Martin; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in knowing Don has finished his earthly race and is now at peace in the presence of his Lord and Savior. His legacy of faith, service, laughter, hard work, unconditional love for his family, and the countless lives he touched will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held at Grunts Catina in Sandia, Texas on Friday, August 21st from 5-9pm. It will be a come & go with BBQ and karaoke style just as Don would want.
