Eduardo R. Ortega

Eduardo R. Ortega passed away on November 26, 2021, at the age of 74. He was born on March 22, 1947 in Harlingen, Texas to Gerardo and Manuela Ortega.

Eduardo is preceded in death by his father, Gerardo Ortega; his mother, Manuela Rodriguez; and his siblings, Manuel Ortega, Jesse Ortega, and Juanita Sanchez.

Eduardo leaves his loving memories to his beloved wife, Mary Jane Ortega; his children, Laura (Fabian) Suarez, Christopher Ortega, Larissa (Victor) Gonzalez, Edward (Martha) Ortega Jr., Crystal (Florencio) Vega, and Aracelli (Nasario) Guerrero; his grandchildren, Jonathan Record, Joshua Record, Christopher Record, Ashley Ortega, Savannah Ramirez, Isaiah Ortega, Larissa Ortega, Lorena Victoria Gonzalez, Sebastian Juan De Dios Gonzalez, Samantha Vega, Kimberly Vega, Aracelli Vega, and Nazario “Blue” Guerrero IV; his great-grandchildren, Elijah Record, Emma Record, Alex Ortega, Emma Rosales, Noah Ortega, and Leo Salazar; his siblings, Henry Enrique Ortega, David Ortega, Julian Ortega, Joe Ortega, and Beatrice Ortega; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Eduardo loved football, especially the Dallas Cowboys. He was very crafty and loved working on construction projects. He loved to joke around with those he loved. He had a passion for singing, dancing, and cooking. Eduardo will be remembered for cooking for everyone while dancing in the kitchen to his favorite oldie’s music. He was a very giving man and would often give food to his neighbors and even to the homeless. Eduardo always made sure everyone had enough to eat, especially his family. His children joke that he made them chubby growing up because he fed them so well. He was also known to give the neighborhood children chips and drinks, prompting his very fitting nickname, “Grandpa.”

Though Eduardo was known to be a family man, he was very stern and strict with his children. His grandchildren, however, were a different story and were spoiled endlessly by him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive condolences on Friday, December 3, 2021, from 10:00 AM- 1:00 PM at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara @ Port Ave; with a Holy Rosary to begin at 1:00 PM with a Liturgy of the Word to be recited at 1:30 PM. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
