Edwardo "Eddie" Gutierrez

Edwardo “Eddie” Gutierrez, born in Alice, Texas on November 9th, 1962, passed away peacefully on June 18th, 2025, surrounded by his family. Eddie was a man of undeniable presence, strength, and creativity. He lived a life that defied convention—boldly forging his path with curiosity, daring, and an unshakable belief that anything was possible. He always pushed those he loved to grow, to question, and to rise above the status quo.

Eddie was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a true original. His deep, booming voice could often be heard singing silly songs, telling unforgettable stories, or filling a room with laughter. He gave each of his loved ones unique, often hilarious nicknames—an expression of the affection and humor that defined him.

Eddie’s daring determined spirit fueled every creative endeavor. Whether building a wooden deck for the first time, designing a greenhouse, or growing life from soil with his extraordinary green thumb, he approached every project with wonder, dedication, and craftsmanship.

Art and music were lifelong passions, woven into the fabric of his spirit. He drew, painted, and curated a legendary record collection that was more like a living archive of rock history. A devoted fan of Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, Rush, Black Sabbath, and the Scorpions, Eddie not only loved the music—he lived it. His stories of seeing bands live were as vivid as the shows themselves, and he passed that love down like a sacred inheritance to his children, nieces, and nephews, shaping our musical tastes and creative spirits.

His adventurous side was most evident on the road. No road trip with Eddie was complete without stopping at every historical marker. With boundless curiosity, he’d dive into the stories behind them, sharing facts, theories, and wisdom that made us believe he knew everything about everything. And honestly, he kind of did.

The beach was Eddie’s sanctuary. Family beach days are forever in our memories as some of the best days we've ever had together.

Though Eddie’s physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit soars, surely reunited with loved ones who left this world before him. We take comfort in knowing he is now in the company of his father, Esequiel "Ike" Gutierrez Jr.; his grandparents, Esequiel and Rosa Gutierrez, and Juan and Isabel Tijerina; his aunts, Maria Lucia Gutierrez and Jare Villarreal; his uncles, Ruben “Canano” Gutierrez Sr., Juan Gutierrez, and Rene Rolando “Meyaya” Gutierrez; his aunt, Gloria Mendez, his uncle Joel Tijerina; and his beloved nephew, Aaron Joseph Lozano. The bond they shared in life now continues beyond this realm.

His legacy lives on through his wife of 38 years, Velma Gutierrez, who stood by him through life’s many adventures. He is survived by his daughter, Briana Gutierrez (Nicholas Fair), and his son, Jon Eric Gutierrez. Eddie will also be dearly missed by his mother, Osvelia Gutierrez; his sister, Enedina Lozano; his brother, Ike Gutierrez; his parents-in-law, Procopio and Alicia Perez; his brothers-in-law, Rolando Perez and Carlos Perez (Melissa Sanchez); his sister-in-law, Cynthia Perez (Ramiro DeHoyos); and his beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Eddie was a cherished uncle to five nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He was our Tio Eddie—one of a kind. His wild tales, laughter, and fearless love will echo through generations.

As we remember him, we celebrate a life lived boldly and with a deep love for his family. His big smile lit up every room, challenged the ordinary, and made those around him feel seen, safe, and truly loved. Though we feel the ache of his absence, we hold tight to the joy of having known him. He left an impression that cannot be erased—and while time may soften the pain, the spirit of Eddie—wild, wise, and wonderfully his own—will echo in our hearts, always.

Though our time with him feels heartbreakingly short, the legacy Eddie leaves behind is vast. A legacy of laughter, curiosity, creativity, and above all—love.

His love was a force—wild and unwavering—and because of it, we are better, braver, and more alive.
