Army Vietnam Combat Engineer Veteran Eligio Hernandez, age 69, joined the ranks of the Lord on April 21, 2012. SP4 Hernandez earned a Bronze star for bravery among other metals. He served Vietnam from 12 February 1968 until 12 February 1974. He was born in Edinburg, TX to Feliciano and Benita Hernandez, on December 1, 1942. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Benito, Dionicio "Nicho", Felix and Guillermo "Willie"; and sisters, Maria Antonia "Toni" Contreras, and Cresencia "Chita" Huizar. Mr. Hernandez is survived by his children, Diana, Michael Richard, and Rachel Hernandez; former wife, Amelia Martinez, all from Alvin, Texas; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brothers, Eustorgio "Corky" Hernandez from Corpus Christi, TX and Ramon Hernandez from Burton, MI; sisters, Cynthia Ruelas, of Burton, MI, Bertie Villarreal of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Lupita Alvarez, of Edinburg, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed, but his stories will live on forever. The family will be receiving friends from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Trevino Funeral Home 3006 Niagara at Port; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. Rites of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May, 2, 2012 at St. Patrick Catholic Church; burial to follow at Coastal Bend Veterans Cemetery.
