Elizandro C. Torres, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024. Born on July 21, 1951, in Falfurrias, TX, Elizandro was a man who deeply cherished his family, friends, and work.
Elizandro dedicated much of his life to his work. He began his career as a welder at Naval Station Ingleside. Later, he worked at CC Disposal as a truck driver and welder before joining South Texas Lighthouse for the Blind. For over 20 years, he served as a riveter there, earning the National Institute for the Blind’s Employee of the Year award in his region— a testament to his dedication and hard work.
Elizandro was born into a large, loving family. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Guadalupe (Lupita) Torres; cherished mother, Santos C. Torres; father, Fidel Torres; sister, Alicia Torres; and nephew, Arturo (Junior) Carabajal. He leaves behind one daughter, Julie Mace (Scott), and seven siblings, Ester Carabajal (Arturo), Castro Torres, Elma Brown (Dennis), Petra Velasquez (Robert), Linda Colunga (Wally), and Victoria Gonzalez (David).
His legacy lives on in his nieces and nephews, Yvonne Velasquez, Robert Jr. Velasquez (Magnus), Marivel Garcia (Ray), Joe Jr. Garcia (Kristina), Arty Garcia (Iliana), Nicanor Velasquez (Gracie), Raul Velasquez (Jillianmarie), Marisol Gonzalez, Eddie Gonzalez (Debbie), Enriquetta Colunga, Monica Colunga, Arlene Carabajal, and Priscilla Carabajal.
Elizandro's life was marked by love, dedication, and a deep commitment to those around him. He will be remembered for his perseverance, his love for his family, and the laughter he brought others through his humor to those who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
Elizandro’s family will receive condolences on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St. @ Port Ave., from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. Liturgy of the Word will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Treviño Funeral Home followed by Rite of Committal and Interment at Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.
