Elma Delia Trejo, aged 71, a vibrant soul and cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on July 20, 1953, in Alice, Texas, to Raul A. and Ella Munoz, Elma D, as she was affectionately known, was a beacon of joy and generosity throughout her life.
Elma D. graduated from Alice High School in 1972 where she cultivated a love for learning and community involvement. Her professional journey was marked by her versatility and work ethic, having been a butcher, waitress, a bookkeeper, and finally retiring as a Finance Manager. Her dedication to her work was only surpassed by her commitment to her family and her passion for life.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Juan G. Trejo Sr.; her children, Michael David Trejo, Juan "Johnny" (Yvonne) Trejo, and Jacob Isael (Samie-Jo) Trejo; and the joy and loves of her life, 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, who will all carry forward her spirit of warmth and kindness. She also leaves behind her siblings, Ella (Quirino) Rios, Ernesto (Gina) Munoz, Elnora Lopez, Zelda Salas, and Cecilia Martinez; brother-in-law, Jacinto Ojeda; and sisters-in-law, Adela Trejo, Belinda Munoz, and Estella “Baby” Munoz.
Elma D. was preceded in death by her parents, Raul A. and Ella Munoz; her daughter, Rosella (David) Johnson; her granddaughter, Alyssa Trejo; her siblings, Herlinda Ojeda, Victor Manuel Munoz, Lincoln Munoz, and Jesse Munoz; her brothers-in-law, Porfirio Salas and Roberto Lopez Sr.; and sister-in-law, Evangelina "Fiddie" (Jose Alfredo) Najar.
Elma D.’s home was a haven for many, including her spoiled fur babies Ben, Pumpkin, Bruno the singing dog, Princes, Max, Bella, and Roskie. Her pets brought her immeasurable joy and companionship, often accompanying her in her daily routines and celebrations.
A true fan at heart, Elma D.'s enthusiasm for the Alice Coyotes and the Dallas Cowboys knew no bounds. She could often be found cheering on her favorite teams, bringing energy and excitement to every game. Her love of cooking was legendary, as she was known for her delectable tamales, enchiladas, and a myriad of other dishes that made every meal a feast to remember.
Elma D.’s favorite holidays were Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter, and she celebrated each with gusto. She reveled in preparing food for her loved ones, making each celebration a testament to her love for family and her culinary prowess. Her home was always open, her table always set, and her laughter was always ready to fill the room.
Her zest for life was evident in the joy she found in simple pleasures such as watching her favorite show, "Caso Cerrado". Elma D.'s spirit was characterized by her thoughtfulness and generosity. She was a pillar of her community, a friend to many, and above all, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt.
Elma Delia Trejo's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the joy of living each day to the fullest. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends, reminding them of the beautiful life she led and the countless lives she touched. As we bid farewell to Elma D, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the enduring impact she has left on the world.
Elma D.'s family will receive condolences on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Trevino Funeral Home Alice, 120 E. Front St., from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM, with Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A funeral cortege will depart the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Friday, February 28, 2025, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Roberson Collins Memorial Cemetery.
Honoring Elma D. as pallbearers are Jacob Trejo, John Michael Vasquez, John Anthony Trejo, Isaiah Leal-Trejo, Kristian Quintanilla, and Ryan Trejo. Honorary Pallbearers are Javier Vasquez and Aaron Vasquez.
