Elma "Mita" Escobar-Jimenez

Elma "Mita" Escobar-Jimenez passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, at the remarkable age of 92. Born on March 17, 1932, in Ben Bolt, Texas, to Juan and Eluteria Escobar. Mita was a cherished figure in her community and the matriarch of a large and loving family. Mita's journey began in the small town of Ben Bolt, where her compassionate spirit was nurtured. Although her formal education concluded in the 10th grade, Mita's wisdom and knowledge extended far beyond the classroom. Her dedication to her family led her to care for her parents and siblings. This selflessness was a hallmark of her character, one that she would carry throughout her life. In her youth, Mita married the love of her life, Crispin Jimenez, Sr., with whom she shared 66 beautiful years. Together they raised a family grounded in the values of respect, honesty, and hard work. Mita was the heart of her home, ensuring that each of her children understood the importance of the joy of living a faith-filled life. Mita's calling to serve extended beyond her immediate family. As a devout member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Ben Bolt, she taught religious education sharing her deep faith and nurturing the spiritual growth of countless children. Mita lived her faith through her deeds and actions, always trusting in God's Word and exemplifying his love with a compassionate smile, open arms, and a generous heart. Her life was filled with the joy of simple pleasures; she enjoyed gardening, quilting and crocheting. Mita loved Conjunto music, the warm embrace of a dance with her husband, and the thrill of a lucky pull at the slot machines. Mita's cooking was loved, her homemade tortillas, carne guisada, tamales, and caldos brought comfort and delight to all who were fortunate enough to experience them. She always had a hot cup of coffee ready to welcome all. Mita is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Crispin Jimenez, Sr.; her parents, Juan and Eluteria Escobar; her son, Juan Jose Jimenez, Sr.; her daughters, Eluteria “Kita” Garcia and Sylvia (Julious) Brandon; and her siblings, Elva Munoz, Elias Escobar Sr., Adan Escobar, Eva Escobar, Joel Escobar, Maria Trevino, and Jose Escobar.

Mita's legacy lives on through her surviving family, her children, Dolores (Michael) Rivera, Delma Noemi (Chris) Loria, Crispin (Alberta) Jimenez, Jr., and Joel Jimenez; daughter-in-law, Olga Flores; and her 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Mita leaves behind a legacy of love and service. Her influence will be felt for generations, a testament to a life well-lived and a faith well-practiced. May her lessons continue to guide us and her spirit forever be a guiding light to all those who knew her and loved her. May she rest in eternal peace.
