Elmida Garza, a beloved sister, friend, and member of the Corpus Christi community, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2023. Born on March 5, 1948, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Elmida spent her entire life in the city she loved, surrounded by the people who loved her.

Elmida was predeceased by her parents, Jose T. Garza and Adelita F. Garza; her brothers, Celedonio Garza, Gilberto Garza, Raul Garza, and Jose Garza, Jr.; and her sisters, Eva C. Silvas, and Andrea Alvarado. She is survived by her brothers, Hector Garza, Alfredo (Carmen) Garza, and Juan Ricardo (Amalia) Garza. Elmida was a loving sister and a cherished member of the Garza family, and her absence will be keenly felt by all who knew her. Elmida was a dedicated employee at Spohn Memorial Hospital, where she worked until her retirement. She was a valued member of the team and her colleagues remember her as a hardworking and diligent individual. Her dedication to her work was a testament to her strong work ethic and commitment to serving her community. Beyond her professional life, Elmida was a woman of many passions. She had a love for games of chance and was a regular at local bingo halls. She also enjoyed the thrill of Las Vegas, making several trips to the city throughout her life. Elmida was an avid fan of the Houston Astros, and she never missed a game. Her enthusiasm was infectious and brought joy to those around her. Elmida was a social butterfly who loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a regular at family gatherings, where her warm and loving presence was always a welcome addition. She had a gift for making people feel special and loved, and her home was always open to friends and family. Her laughter and love for life will be sorely missed. The Garza family would like to express their gratitude for the outpouring of love and prayers during this difficult time. Elmida was a woman who touched many lives, and the family takes comfort in knowing how loved she was by all who knew her. Elmida Garza was a loving individual who brought joy and happiness to everyone she met. Her spirit, her love for her family, and her dedication to her community will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the life of a woman who made a lasting impact on so many people. Elmida will be missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those she left behind.

Elmida’s family will receive condolences on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Trevino Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St. @ Port Ave., from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 4, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 10:00 AM, followed by Rite of Committal and Interment at Memory Garden Cemetery.
