Eluterio "Eddie" Gallegos Barrera, Jr. passed peacefully into eternal life at his residence while surrounded by his loving family on November 24, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy shaped by hard work, dedication, unwavering faith, and a commitment to both his family and country.
Eddie attended the Alice Independent School District and graduated from William Adams High School Class of 1958. He was an exceptional student and excelled in his musical talent, receiving many awards for playing the clarinet. Let it be known that Eddie was the #1 fan of the Coyotes Football team and never missed a game.
Eddie enlisted in the United States Army in 1962 and served as a marksman and single engine airplane mechanic. After his honorable discharge he worked for the Army Depot, as an Air Craft Mechanic for single engine planes and helicopters. He was known for his dedication, professionalism, strong work ethic, and respectfulness - all for which he was recognized and acknowledged with many awards. He retired as Directorate of Quality Assurance Specialist, Manager & Leader after working 45 years for the Army Depot.
Beyond his career, Eddie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He cherished his time spent at the ranch, enjoyed watching airplane shows with family, and looked forward to family gatherings at Golden Corral. Barbecuing was another favorite pastime, surrounded by his family and friends. He was a lifetime faithful active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, always ready to volunteer, to clean up, assist with youth retreats, fundraisers, or wherever was needed. He made sure his children were raised in the faith and received their sacraments; teaching faith through his actions and deeds.
Eddie enjoyed watching old Television western shows like “Gunsmoke”, “Rifleman,” and “Bonanza”, or going to see Western Movies. He was always attentive to the needs of his family, whether it involved providing financial support, taking them to the hospital, assisting with home repairs, plumbing, or building projects. His nurturing spirit and attentiveness left a lasting impression on those around him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Guadalupe V. Barrera; his children, Eluterio Barrera III, Patricia (Paul) Barrera, Gilbert (Jessica)V.
