Elvira Alaniz Alvarez, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2023, in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 96. Born on February 9, 1927, in Alamo, Texas, Elvira was the cherished daughter of Martinino and Manuela Alaniz. Throughout her life, Elvira's warm spirit and unwavering love for her family touched the hearts of all who knew her. Elvira was preceded in death by her parents, Martinino and Manuela Alaniz; her devoted husband, Jose P. Alvarez Sr.; her beloved son, Joe P. Alvarez Jr.; and her dear daughter, Esperanza Alaniz. She is survived by her loving daughters, Rosie Nava, Josie Winchell (Dennis), and Mary Lou Palacios (Florencio); her caring daughter-in-law, Velma Alvarez; and her supportive brothers and sisters. Elvira's legacy will live on through her cherished grandchildren, Ruby Selcer, Rick Nava, Debbie, David, Deanna, F. Michael Palacios, Priscilla Garza, Daniel Palacios, and Jared Alvarez; her 14 great-grandchildren; her 10 great-great-grandchildren; and the countless extended family members who were fortunate enough to know and love her. As the matriarch of her family, Elvira was a guiding light and source of strength for all who knew her. She was a steadfast presence in the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, providing love, support, and wisdom at every turn. Her unwavering commitment to her family was evident in the countless sacrifices she made and the endless love she gave. Elvira had a passion for playing bingo and could often be found at her local bingo hall, surrounded by friends and family. Her love for the game brought joy and laughter to those around her, and her competitive spirit was infectious. Elvira's enthusiasm for bingo was just one of the many ways she brought happiness and excitement to the lives of her loved ones.

The family would like to give special thanks to Our Graceful Home Care Plus providers that were like family; Elida, Fosia, Santiago, Sarah, Melissa, Gabby, Brandi, Romo, Vicki, Rebecca, and caregiver, Leo Moore.

Elvira Alaniz Alvarez will be remembered as a loving, devoted, and strong woman who left an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and her spirit will continue to guide and inspire them for generations to come.

The family will receive condolences on Friday, June 23, 2023, from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM, at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara Port Ave; with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 10:00 AM. A funeral cortege will depart the funeral home at 11:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church at 12:00 PM. Rite of Committal and Interment will take place at Seaside Memorial Park.
