Eugenio Zapata Sr.

Eugenio Zapata Sr. passed away October 24, 2017 at the age of 92.

He was born on April 4, 1925 in Mathis, TX to Ramon and Yerenia Zapata. Eugenio was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his step mother, Chrestina Zapata; four brothers, Trinedad Zapata, Daniel Zapata, Thomas Zapata and Ramon Zapata Jr.; three sisters, Lena Cabrera, Maria Luz Zapata, and Maria Magdalena Jacinto; one great granddaughter, Natalie Bazan; two sons-in-law, Miguel Valdes and Roberto Garza; and one sister-in-law, Estor Zapata.

He is survived by his loving family: wife, Maria Reyes Zapata; daughters, Alicia Valdes of Carrizo Springs, Alma Augillon (Ernesto) of Freer, Rebecca Zapata of Freer, Irene Chavez (Felipe) of Corpus Christi, Rosa Garza of Freer, Maggie Perez of Alice, Maricela Vargas (Luis) of Washington, and Barbara Zapata of Freer; sons, Amador Zapata, Eugenio Zapata (Sylvia), Emeterio Zapata (Letty), Alfredo Zapata, and Leonel Zapata (Cheryl), all of Freer; sisters, Geneva Arriago of Bastrop, May Guerrero (Joe) of Pasadena, CA., Rosa Barboza of George West, Natalia Castandea of George West, Becky Gamoba (Alfred) of San Antonio, and Bennie Z. Castaneda (Arnoldo) of Victoria; brothers, Richard Zapata (Mary Lou) of George West and David Zapata of Houston; 40 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive condolences on Friday, October 27, 2017, at Treviño Funeral Home, 120 E. Front St., from 4 to 9 in the evening; where a vigil for the deceased and a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

Chapel service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Trevino Funeral Home on Saturday, October 28, 2017. Funeral cortege will depart at 10:30 a.m. to George West Cemetery where a Christian burial will be celebrated.
