Obituary

Evangelina "Eva" R. Hernandez passed peacefully into eternal life, while surrounded by her loving family, on July 7, 2026. She was born in San Diego, Texas, on October 18, 1931, and lived most of her life in Alice, Texas. Eva's life was a testament to generosity, love of family, and unwavering faith.

Eva was recognized by all who knew her as a person whose actions were guided by honesty and compassion. Ever outgoing and generous, she had a remarkable ability to make those around her feel valued and welcome. Her intelligent approach to life was matched by her steadfast work ethic, punctuality, and integrity. Eva radiated her love of God through her sincerity and kindness; consistently living her faith through her everyday actions and always being attentive to the needs of her family and friends with compassion and generosity.

Eva worked as a nurse for Dr. Albert for many, many years and she treated all their patients with utmost respect; compassionately caring for them as if they were her own family members. Eva was also an Avon Sales Representative; her perfect makeup sold the Avon products. She enjoyed listening to Tejano music and loved to dance and was always perfectly dressed for any occasion. However, her greatest pleasure and joy was being privileged to take care of her mother.

Eva was recognized by the Nayer Elementary School PTA, as follows:  “The next life membership goes to a woman who served two years as President of her local PTA, one year as 3rd Vice-President, and one year as Treasurer. She was chairman of the Founders Day Program in February, where the life members were recognized. She has served as delegate to State Convention, delegate to City Council, Secretary for City Council, PTA Carnival Chairman for three years, and Publicity Book Chairman. She is a Cub Scout Den Mother and Treasurer of the Duval – Jim Wells Cancer Society. She has participated in the Community Education Survey, pre-registered the Kindergarten Children in pre-school Round-up, helped in a survey for a book called, “Everybody is a teacher”, and is chairman for March of Dimes. Nayer Elementary School is proud to present Miss Eva Rodriguez with this life Membership.”

Eva is survived by her brother, Jose L. Rodriguez; sisters, Marcelina (Amancio) Gonzalez and Enriqueta Paez; her niece, Raquel Zarate, whom she loved as a daughter-in-law; her great-nieces and nephews whom she treated and loved as her grandchildren, Cisco, Gina, and Casey Rodriguez; great-grandchildren, Avery, Calob, Alexa, Ysela, Gieanna, Landon Rodriguez, Neilah Espinoza, Wes Odem, and Dallas Francisco Olivio, whose lives have been enriched by her presence, guidance, and unconditional love; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jose Hernandez; her parents, Geronimo and Enriqueta Rodriguez; her siblings, San Juana (Jimmy) Turley, Luz (Ramiro) Bernal, Ofelia (Amador) Porras, Maria Elena (Candelario) Pena, Inez (Mauro) Garcia, and Francisco (Estella) Rodriguez; and her nephew that she raised as a son since he was an infant, Francisco “Frank” Rodriguez Jr.

Eva’s family will receive condolences on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Trevino Funeral Home Alice, 120 E. Front Street, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM; with the Holy Rosary and Liturgy of the Word to be begin at 11:00 AM. A Funeral Cortege will depart the funeral home at 12:30 PM to Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery for Rite of Committal and Interment at 2:00 PM, where Eva will be laid to rest in the peace of Christ.

Eva's dedicated spirit and the love she so freely gave will continue to live in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her and love her. The legacy she leaves is one of faith, generosity, and family love.

Honoring Eva as pallbearers are Calob Jay Rodriguez, Landon Rene Rodriguez, Jake Torrez, Kristopher Rodriguez, Jon Michael Anderson, Seth Gonzales, Orlando Gonzalez, and Ruben Cantu.
