Felicitas (Felita) Lopez

Felicitas (Felita) Lopez, a loving, kind, and adventurous woman, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2023, in her hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on March 10, 1936, to Candelerio and Felicita Gloria, Felita spent her life dedicated to her family, her work, and her community.

Felita was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jesse Lopez; her parents; and sisters, Alice Gloria and Nadine Barrera.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Lopez, and her granddaughter, Elena Allya Rodriguez (Alan). Felita also leaves behind her son, Joe (Trudy) Lopez, and grandchildren, Cristina (Mike) Zalaznik, Carlos Lopez, Esteban Lopez, Brant (Christina) Deshotels, and Corey (Jacqueline)Deshotels. Her nieces and nephews, Chris and Liza Barrera and their children, and Cissy Garcia and her children, will fondly remember their beloved aunt.

Felita was a lifelong learner, earning her associate's degree at Del Mar College and becoming a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She worked at Doctors Regional Hospital, where she was employed as a Certified Operating Room Technician. Felita was passionate about her work and was known for her dedication to her patients and colleagues.

In her free time, Felita loved to travel with her husband, exploring new places and making lasting memories. She loved reading all about Texas history, enjoyed sewing, gardening, and taking pictures everywhere she went. Felita had a particular fondness for the state of Texas and the H.E.B grocery store chain, which she would frequently visit even if she didn’t need anything.

Her family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Gentiva/Kindred Hospice Staff for their compassionate care of Felita during her final two and a half years, and those whom Felita saw as her bonus grandkids, Jesse Belock and Susana Rios. They would also like to thank Felita’s neighbors, the Uballe family, for their unwavering support and friendship. Felita’s love for animals was evident in her affection for the “Puppies” and “The Gato”, who brought her comfort and joy throughout her life.

Felita was a devout member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where she found solace and strength in her faith. Her family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the church in her name to honor her memory and continue her and her husband Jesse’s legacy of kindness and service to the Catholic Faith.

Felita Lopez will be remembered for her warm heart, her adventurous spirit, and her unconditional love for her family and friends. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all she touched.

A Holy Rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Rite of Committal and Inurnment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
