Francisca “Momo” Contreras Rivera was called to her heavenly home on April 18, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Francisca was a wonderful loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was always there to help and care for those she loved so deeply. There was nothing she liked more than vacationing with her family from youngest to oldest, which they did for many years until Covid-19 2020. She loved listening to music, singing, and making others smile and laugh, always with a twinkle in her eye.
She was a member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Orange Grove, TX. Her devotion to God led her to faithfully serve as a Eucharistic Minister, Crusillista, Guadalupana, and member of the Altar Society. Because of this, she instilled in her children her faith and devotion to God.
After many years, Francisca retired from Orange Grove ISD where she took great pride in the work she did and did well.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfredo Rivera Sr; parents, Juan and Paula Contreras; sons, Gilbert Rivera Sr and his, wife Irma Rivera, and Michael Rivera Sr; grandson Roger Rivera Jr; great-grandson, John Isaac Villarreal; one brother, Catarino Contreras Sr; and three sisters, Dominga Alaniz, Herlinda Rivera, and Flavia Rivera.
Francisca is survived by her children, Yolanda (Ernest) Villarreal of Orange Grove, TX, Noemi (Jaime) Lopez of Pearsall, TX, Norma (Jeff) Koricanek of Gonzales, TX, Roger (Annette) Rivera of Orange Grove, TX, and Wilfredo Rivera Jr, of Corpus Christi, TX; sister, Lydia (Richard) Ortiz of Alice, TX, daughter-in-law, Lillie (Michael) Rivera of Orange Grove, TX; 14 grandchildren, Brian Villarreal, Misty Parrish, Vanessa Martinez, Gilbert Rivera Jr, Monica Rivera, Andrea Martinez, Drew Rivera, Petina Rivera, Michael Rivera, Jr., Leah Rivera, Veronica Rivera, Celeste Lopez, Levi Lopez, and Danny Garza; 30 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family will receive condolences on Thursday, April 22, 2021, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Treviño Funeral Home, 120 E. Front St.; with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A funeral cortege will depart Treviño Funeral Home on Friday, April 23, 2021, at 9:30 AM to St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Orange Grove, TX for a 10 AM Mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow at St. John of the Cross Cemetery.
Honoring her as pallbearers will be Brian Villarreal, Gilbert Rivera Jr, Drew Rivera, Michael Rivera Jr, Levi Lopez, and Danny Gaza.
“The family of Francisca “Momo” Rivera wish to thank those of you that have kept us in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for being here for us in our time of need. Words cannot express what we feel.”
