Gilbert Dominquez Morin, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on June 22, 2021, at his home with family by his side.
He was proud of his service in the United States Army. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal, World War II Victory Medal, was in the Military Police and earned rifleman qualification.
Gilbert worked for Asarco refinery plant for 38 years as his day job. He was well known for being an amazing mechanic; his side job to support his family. He worked hard in order to ensure a Catholic education for all of his children. His children attended school at the Cathedral, Ss. Cyril & Methodius and Incarnate Word Academy.
Gilbert was proud of all his children and grandchildren. He traveled to graduations, weddings, birthday parties and family events as his children and grandchildren meant the world to him. He honestly lit up every time his grandchildren came to visit.
He never stayed still - in May 2021 he was still mowing his yard. He continued to work on cars as much as he could; having to sneak it as his grown children didn’t want him hurting himself. He loved drag racing, watching CNN non-stop and Texas lottery scratch cards.
He is preceded in death by Dr. Edith M. Salinas, his daughter; Mark A. Morin, his son; Michael P. Smith, his son-in-law; Belen Lopez, his sister; Fred Morin, his brother and Amalio and Sara Morin, his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Hilda L. Morin; children, Gilda Morin, Laura M. Smith, Gilbert Morin Jr., Gabriel Morin (Yvonne), Paul Morin (Bacilia), Angela M. Deluca, Eddie Morin and son-in-law Alfred Salinas, Jr.
Gilbert's witty humor always kept his grandchildren entertained as they all had a close relationship with him. His surviving grandchildren are Adrian Salinas, Gary Salinas, Cindra Smith, Gilbert Morin III, Jonathan Morin, Matthew Morin, Mariana Morin, Natalie Morin, Joshua Deluca, Justin Deluca, Julia Deluca and Great-Grandson Noah Salinas.
