Gilbert R. Rivera, Sr.

Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend, Gilbert R. Rivera Sr., entered into eternal rest at his home in Alice, Texas on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, after a brief battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Gilbert retired from Enterprise Product as a Senior Distribution Coordinator after 40 years of service; in which he took great pride in reporting daily that his assets had “no issues”. Many will remember him as a quiet and kind gentleman who could impart wisdom, as well as, command respect. He had a unique sense of humor but it was his love of family that gave him the greatest pleasure. Above all, Gilbert was passionate and proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his best friend and the love of his life, wife, Irma G. Rivera; father, Wilfredo Rivera Sr.; brother, Michael Rivera, his in-laws, Santos and Martina Gonzalez; brothers-in-law, Manuel Gonzalez, Joe Gaza, Camilo Corona, and Santos Gonzalez Jr.; and sister-in-law, Concepcion Pena.

He is survived by his daughters, Monica Rivera and Andrea Martinez; son, Gilbert (Minnie) Rivera Jr; nephew, raised like a son, Daniel (Samantha) Gaza; mother, Francisca Rivera; brothers, Roger (Annette) Rivera and Wilfredo “Willie” Rivera Jr.; sisters, Yolanda (Ernest) Villarreal, Noemi (Jaime) Lopez, and Norma (Jeff) Koricanek; brothers-in-law Pedro (Senaida) Gonzalez and Ramon (Margie) Gonzalez; sisters-in-law, Lillie Rivera, Elma Gaza, and Reyna (Geyel) Valenzuela; grandchildren, Michael (Kayla) Deanda, Wesley(Nadine) Rivera-Perez, Pablo (Alicia) Rivera, Nicholas (Maddison) Rivera, Ivan Rivera, Jaslene Martina Garcia, Ermalyn Urrutia-Rivera, Alessandra Urrutia-Rivera, Christopher Gaza, Mathew Gaza, Makayla Lopez, Meriah Lopez, Myleigh Gonzalez, and Hurley Gaza;  seven (7) great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will receive condolences on Thursday, February 25, 2021, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Treviño Funeral Home, 120 E. Front St, Alice, Texas; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 26, 2021, at 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church followed by Rite of Committal and Interment at St. John of the Cross Cemetery, in Orange Grove, Texas.

Honoring Gilbert as pallbearers will be his grandsons Michael Deanda, Wesley     Rivera-Perez, Pablo Rivera, Nicholas Rivera, Ivan Rivera, and Christopher Gaza.

Face masks must be worn, and social distancing must be practiced while attending funeral services due to the current pandemic.
