Gloria Cardona Quiroga, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025, in Brownwood, Texas, at the age of 76. Born on April 16, 1949, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Gloria's life was characterized by her kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to those she loved.
From a very young age, Gloria embodied the values of hard work and determination. She began her career picking cotton, from which she proudly earned enough money to buy her first pair of red boots. This early lesson in labor laid the foundation for her work ethic throughout her life. Gloria took immense joy in working outdoors, tending to her garden and yard, where she cultivated beautiful plants and flowers. Her love for nature extended to fishing, a favorite pastime for which she mastered the art of preparing and frying the most delicious fish dishes.
Education was valued in Gloria's life; she graduated from the Tuloso-Midway School District class of 1967, a testament to her commitment to learning and personal growth. Throughout her life, she remained devoted to her deep faith as an active and faithful Catholic, living out her beliefs through her actions of love and service.
Family was paramount to Gloria, and she exemplified the true meaning of care by looking after her parents, and as well as her in-laws until their passing. Her generous spirit and loving nature had a lasting impact on all who knew her. Gloria instilled the importance of hard work, honesty, respect, family unity, and trust in God among her family and friends.
Gloria leaves behind her cherished children, Esmeralda (Alejandro) Aguilar, Horacio (Courtney) Quiroga Jr., Sylvia (Rafael) Cuellar Jr., and David (Jessica) Quiroga. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Victoria, Kyle, Gilbert, Olivea, Kacey, Kaylanie, and Avah, along with her great-grandchildren, Gemma and Cameron. She is also survived by numerous siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family who will carry her memory in their hearts.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Horacio V. Quiroga; her parents, Eleno and Maria Cardon; and her brothers, Juan, Joe, and Martin Cardona. Gloria's life was a testament to love, service, and resilience and her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
