Guadalupe F. Chapa, Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 29, 2024, at the age of 77, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on August 20, 1947, in Tamaulipas, Mexico, Guadalupe, also affectionally known as Pepe, Dad, and his favorite being grandpa, was a beacon of light, hard work, love, and laughter to all who knew him.
Pepe's life was a testament to his strength, dedication, and virtues he carried with him from his humble beginnings in Mexico. Despite receiving an education only up to the third grade, he was resourceful and a jack of all trades. He prided himself on the back-breaking work of picking cotton, onions, grapes and more. His influence extended beyond the fields and into the hearts of all who knew him. He retired after many years of dedicated service at the Rivera Vineyards in California.
Pepe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Zulema G. Chapa; his parents, Manuel and Enriqueta Chapa; his brother-in-law, Elias Garcia; and his sister-in-law, Estefana Chapa.
Pepe's legacy lives on through his sons, Ernesto (Elizabeth) Chapa, Jose Manuel Chapa, and Guadalupe Chapa, Jr.; his grandchildren, Emma, Abraham, Lilia, and Angel Joaquin Chapa; his sister, Criselda Garcia; his brother, Argelio Chapa; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will dearly miss his wisdom, humor, and spirit.
Pepe instilled values of respect, honesty, punctuality, discipline, and faith in his family. His sons' accomplishments filled him with immense pride. He was regarded as a great provider, who never cashed a check, as he always handed over his checks to his wife, entrusting her to take care of their family's needs which were made with love and sacrifice.
Pepe was an avid fan of Tejano music and loved dancing. His sense of humor brought joy and laughter to those around him. His favorite pastime was visiting casinos in California, Eagle Pass, and Louisiana, where he enjoyed the thrill of the game. Above all, he was the #1 fan of the LA Dodgers, a passion he shared with friends and family alike.
Those who knew Pepe will remember him as a hard-working handy man whose life’s values of respect, faith, and love, along with always being attentive and generous to anyone in need, will be cherished for generations to come.
Pepe’s family will receive condolences on Monday, December 6, 2025, at Treviño Funeral Home, 120 E. Front Street, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 8:00 AM and Liturgy of the Word will begin at 10:00 AM at Treviño funeral Home. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Roberson-Collins Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
