Guadalupe G. Rios, known affectionately as Lupe to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, while surrounded by his loving family at his home in Alice, Texas. He was born to his parents, Roberto and Aida Rios, on November 25, 1951, in Mathis, Texas. Lupe's journey through life was marked by his dedication to his family, his service to his country, and his exceptional skill as a mechanic. Lupe began his educational journey in the Orange Grove Independent School District before his family moved to California, where he graduated from the Stanislaus High School class of 1970. Recognized for his intelligence and wit, he went on to further his education at Stanislaus County College in Livingston, California. His commitment to excellence and service led him to join the United States Air Force where he served with pride in the 3727 Squadron Flight 550 as part of the Air Force Mechanic division. Throughout his life, Lupe was a self-employed mechanic, a career that he approached with the utmost respect, honesty, and hard work. His reputation for being punctual (except when it came to doctor appointments), a man of his word, and a jack of all trades was well-known in his community. There was nothing he couldn't fix or do and he took great pride in his work, which was not just a job but a calling that he fulfilled with passion and precision. Lupe's interests extended beyond his professional life. He was a loving family man who lived his faith through his actions and deeds. Always attentive to the needs of his family and those in need, he was ready to give a helping hand, whether it was offering food, repairing something, or providing monetary assistance. His love of music was evident in his enjoyment of playing the guitar and his fondness for listening to Bob Dylan. Another favorite pastime of Lupe’s was playing pool. Lupe's wonderful sense of humor was a gift that he shared at every opportunity, bringing joy and laughter to those around him.
Lupe is preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 48 years, Genobeba “Ginnie” Rios; his parents, Roberto and Aida Rios; and his brother, Augustin Rios.
Lupe is survived by his loving children, Gloria Rios, Gracie (Roel) Vela, Geronimo Rios, and Guadalupe Venancio (Erika) Rios; his siblings, Maria Garcia, Robert (Mary) Rios, Rosa Hernandez, Ramiro Rios, Roy (Belinda) Rios, and Joann Rios; his cherished nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him dearly. We bid farewell to this remarkable man who instilled life values to his children through his faith and belief in God’s Word, his love of family, his kindness, and his generosity. We pray his memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of those who knew him and loved him.
Lupe’s family will receive condolences on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Trevino Funeral Home Alice, 120 E. Front St., from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM with Liturgy of the Word to begin at 11:00 AM.
