Hector Antonio Chapa Sr., a cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on April 18, 1945, Hector's life was characterized by his unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his work.
Hector's journey began as a young man when he courageously served in the U.S. Army, a period of his life that shaped his values of discipline and commitment. After his honorable discharge, he transitioned into civilian life with the same level of dedication, embarking on a career in the oilfields where he worked diligently until his retirement. After Hector’s retirement in the oilfields, he dedicated over 30 years of volunteer service at the Alice Food Bank. His unwavering commitment was evident as he volunteered almost every day touching the lives of countless individuals with his generosity and warm spirit. His work ethic and reliability made him a respected figure among his colleagues and within the industry.
Hector’s legacy is lovingly carried on by his wife of 55 years, Diana Chapa, who stood by him through life's many adventures. Together, they raised a family that was the center of Hector's world. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Michelle Chapa, his sons, Hector Chapa Jr. (Maggie), Kenneth Wayne Chapa (Colleen), and Eric Edward Chapa (Sandra). Hector’s role as a patriarch extended to his siblings, Richard Chapa, Jose Arturo Chapa (Blanca), Lupe Garza, Ercilia Alvarado, and sister-in-law Minerva Chapa, who remember him as a guiding light in their lives.
A source of endless stories and wisdom, Hector was a beloved grandfather to ten grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. His tales and lessons will continue to inspire generations to come.
Although Hector's passing leaves a void, his family takes comfort in knowing that he is reunited with his siblings, Homer Chapa, Aurora (Dagoberto) Hernandez, and Hilda (Adan) Benavides, sister-in-law Odelia Marie “Lela” Chapa, brother-in-laws, Joe Garza, and Samuel Alvarado, who preceded him in death. The bond they shared in life continues beyond this world.
Hector's impact extended beyond his family. His strength of character, sense of humor, and generous spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was a man who could be counted on, a friend who offered a listening ear and wise counsel, and a community member who believed in the power of unity and support.
As we remember Hector Antonio Chapa Sr., we celebrate a life well-lived. His was a life filled with purpose, love, and an unwavering commitment to those he held dear. He taught us the importance of family, the value of hard work, and the joy of living each day to the fullest.
We bid farewell to Hector, not with sadness, but with gratitude for the time we were privileged to share with him. His memory will continue to guide and comfort us as we navigate the path ahead without him. Hector's legacy is not just in the life he led but in the love he left behind—a love that will continue to thrive in the hearts of his family and friends.
In honor of his remarkable life, we will gather to share memories, laughter, and tears, celebrating the man who touched so many lives. Hector Antonio Chapa will be dearly missed, but his spirit will forever be a beacon of light for all who were fortunate enough to know him.
