We are sad to announce that Hilda Lara Morin, 95 years old, passed away on February 21, 2025.
Hilda was a devoted Catholic, attending mass every Sunday and then watching the Cathedral mass on TV when she could no longer physically attend. She proudly announced her age each year at mass when birthdays were announced and dragged Gilbert to mass every September so they could announce their anniversary also. Parishioners were amazed when they announced 73 years of marriage and congratulated them after mass.
She had crosses throughout her home and her favorite Our Lady of Guadalupe was also displayed, as well as being a pendant she wore every day.
Hilda loved to have family and friends visit, making sure to always have baked goods for them. No one ever left her home with an empty stomach, and the joke was Mom’s question to all “Wanna eat?”
She accomplished what most people can’t imagine - she raised nine children. Several nieces even swore that Hilda was like a 2nd mother to them. Hilda, rightly so, often bragged about this accomplishment. Bishop Michael Mulvey made her day after her granddaughter’s confirmation, when he insisted on taking a picture with a woman who raised nine children.
This is just one of the many great stories of an amazing woman.
Hilda is preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Gilbert D. Morin; children, Dr. Edith M. Salinas, Gilbert Morin, Jr., Mark Morin; son-in-law, Michael P. Smith; brothers, Crespin Lara, Jr. and Adolf Lara; and parents, Crespin and Herlinda Lara.
She is survived by her children, Gilda Morin, Laura M. Smith, Gabriel Morin (Yvonne), Paul Morin (Bacilia), Angela M. Godoy (Richard), Edward Morin; son-in-law, Alfred Salinas, Jr.; grandchildren, Adrian Salinas, Gary Salinas, Cindra Smith, Gilbert Morin III, Jonathan Morin, Matthew Morin(Fiancée Sydney), Mariana Morin, Natalie Morin, Joshua DeLuca, Justin DeLuca, Julia DeLuca; and great-grandson, Noah Salinas.
Hilda’s family will receive condolences on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St. @ Port Ave., from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM.
