Hortencia Garza Burns passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at the age of 90. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Hortencia was dedicated to her family and taught her children the value of education, hard work, and pursuing their dreams. She graduated from San Diego High School, obtained a degree in cosmetology, an associate degree, and a Real Estate Broker’s license. She worked as a hairdresser, bookkeeper, teacher assistant, real estate broker and clerk for the Jim Wells County District Clerk’s office. She loved cooking, gambling in Coushatta, playing the maquinitas, family barbecues, a good party and was a big Dallas Cowboys fan.
Hortencia is preceded in death by her parents, Jose Garza and Claudia Trevino Garza; brothers, Humberto Garza and Orlando Garza; and sister, Claudia Nelly Solis.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Ruth (James) Johnston, Bertha (Bart) Burns, Joseph Burns, and Darryl (Sharon) Burns; grandchildren, Jared, Kandy, Brandy, Cara, Adria, Kris, Alec, Jenny, Joey, Jessie, Ryan, Jared, Josiah, Caleb, Faith, Hope and Seth; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jake, Brody, Dylan, Jaden, Wyatt, Maison, Chloe, Cyla, Christian, Adriana, Gavin, Max, Ethan, and Wynn; great-great granddaughter, Hadley; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
