Ignacio departed this world peacefully on August 9, 2026, in Corpus Christi, TX. Born on February 1, 1942, in Cuba, Ignacio’s journey was filled with resilience, dedication, and kindness—qualities that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Ignacio made a home in his new country, building a life rooted in hard work, perseverance, and generosity. Those who knew him fondly remember his familiar presence throughout the neighborhood, driving the V+B ice cream truck—its cheerful music serving as an invitation and its sweet treats bringing simple moments of joy.

Ignacio took great pride in selling ice cream from his beloved truck, especially enjoying trips to the beach, where he shared countless sweet moments with friends, neighbors, and smiling children. Through his business, Ignacio created cherished memories not only for himself but also for the many families who eagerly awaited his arrival on warm summer days.

His dedication to hard work and providing for his family continued throughout his career at Distribution International (DI), where he faithfully served for 21 years before retiring. His strong work ethic, perseverance, and commitment were a reflection of the values he carried throughout his life. Whether behind the wheel of his ice cream truck or at work, Ignacio found purpose in serving others and bringing happiness to those around him.

A pillar of strength to his family, Ignacio is survived by his devoted wife, Guadalupe Vera, whose lifelong partnership with him remains an enduring testament to love, devotion, and unity.

His legacy lives on through his daughters, Ida Pena, Margie Pantoja (Tony), and Beatris Zarate (Rick); his sons, Luis Piedra (Rosemary) and Ernesto Piedra (Amber); his grandchildren, Jeremy Peña, Matthew Pantoja, Crystal Diaz, Ariel Franco, Jessica Piedra, and Ernesto Piedra; and his great-grandchildren, Zane Peña, Lexi Peña, Cash Peña, Colten Carpenter, Aubrey Diaz, Faith Diaz, Deric Diaz, Travis Jones, Sofia Jones, Bryson Jones, and Jean Carlos Piedra. He is also survived by his 31 beloved nieces and nephews, who were an important part of his life and family.

Each of them carries a part of Ignacio’s legacy forward, reflecting the compassion, diligence, strength, and warmth that defined his life and the love he shared with those around him.

Ignacio’s brother, Robert Vera, remains as a testament to their enduring sibling bond—a connection that weathered both joyous and difficult times across many years. Ignacio now reunites with his beloved parents, Dionisio Vera and Virgilia Perez Vera, and is preceded in death by his siblings: Luis, Ramon, Gil, Arturo, Librado, and Brigido Vera, as well as Fe Esperanza and Eumelia Vera. The Vera family story is forever enriched by the love and memories they all shared.

As Ignacio’s earthly journey comes to a close, his family honors his memory and spirit. His pallbearers will be Jeremy Peña, Matthew Pantoja, Joel Vera, Eddie Salinas, Gabriel Luna, and Rory Lysaker—a group that reflects the enduring impact Ignacio had on family and friends alike. Together, they will carry him one final time with reverence and love.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Gentiva Hospice, especially his devoted nurses, Jessica and Katherine, for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided to Ignacio and his family during his final days. Their dedication and gentle presence brought comfort and peace to both Ignacio and his loved ones, and the family will remain forever grateful for the care they gave.

His was a life that brightened the sidewalks, the seashores, and the hearts of all who crossed his path.
