Our beloved mother, Irene Esperanza Lopez Cerda (Güera), 84, went home to her Heavenly Father on Friday, September 18, 2026. Irene was born on October 20, 1941, in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.

Irene was a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many who cherished her love and her compassion for helping others. Irene worked at Southern State Optical and Texas State Optical as an Optical Technician. She also worked at Montgomery Ward as a cake decorator instructor. In an effort to advance to a successful career, Irene then attended Houston Community College where she took computer and medical related courses to advance her skills in order to obtain a position at The Houston Methodist Hospital and at Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi in the IT Department.

Irene was a Cub Scout Den Mother for Pack 31 at Blessed Sacrament Church. She was also a Team Mom for the East End Baseball Little League in Houston, Texas. She enjoyed bowling, painting, cake-decorating, crocheting and sewing for her girls. Irene was naturalized as a citizen of the United States of America on June 19, 2003.

Irene is survived by her beloved husband of 30 years, Victor C. Cerda Jr; her children, Rachel Pantoja (James), Isabel Weirich (Henry), Rebecca Rocha (Alexander), Robert Lopez Jr (Jacqueline), Vincent Lopez (Carolyn), and Oscar Lopez (Lisa); her step-children, Rose Cerda, Sandi Rodriguez (Jody), and Victor Cerda III (Heather); her grandchildren, Robert A. Pichardo (Carlos), Bianca Lopez (Art Roman), Steven Lopez (Haylee), Nicole Valencia (James), Victoria Paul (Devaughn), Basil Lopez (Joshua Ramos), Jeremy Lopez, Michelle Lopez, Christian Weirich (Jessica), Alexander Rocha II (Tiare), Rhyan Weirich (Hannah), Dominic Rocha (Jessi), Kristen Zehr, Markus Vasquez, Karissa Betancourt, Ariel Rodriguez, Matyson Cerda, Maleia Cerda, Lukas Nesbit, Liberty Nesbit, and Livian Nesbit; her great grandchildren, Penelope Ramos, Elias Ramos, Gabriel Lopez, Nova Roman, Dominic Paul, Elodie Ramos, Henry R. Weirich, Grayson Lopez, Liliana Valencia, Wilhelmina Weirich, Vivian Paul, Elliana Rocha, Greyson Salinas, and Ethan Betancourt; and her sister, Alice Carmen Rubio.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Juan Morin and Elisa Jurado; her first husband, Robert D. Lopez; her grandson, Vincent Lukas Lopez; sister, Maria Luisa Rivera; and brother, Juan Morin Jr.

Irene’s family will receive condolences on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with recitation of the Holy Rosary to begin at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church followed by Rite of Committal and Interment at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery where Irene will be laid to rest.
