James Edward Garcia

James Edward Garcia, who was born on March 3, 1941 to Alvemeria W. Garcia and Glady M. Harderman, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication, and love. A cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, James' spirit and influence touched many lives throughout his 83 years. James’ journey began in the heart of a close-knit community of Rosenwald Junior/Senior High School. His hard work and determination led him to graduate in May of 1960, setting the stage for a life of accomplishment and commitment. James’ educational foundation served as a springboard for his future endeavors, both in his professional life and personal pursuits. After completing his education, James dedicated 20 years of his life to the United States Navy, a testament to his patriotism and strength of character. His skills as an Aircraft Mechanic Specialist, Jet and Reciprocal Engines Specialist, Power Plant Flight Line Supervising, and Quality Assurance Specialist demonstrated his technical expertise and unwavering responsibility. James’ colleagues and subordinates alike respected him for his meticulous attention to detail and his steadfast leadership. Upon leaving the Navy, James continued to expand his skills and knowledge. He worked for the Dowell Chemical Division for two years, where he was certified by the National Institute for Automobile Service. His passion for mechanics and commitment to excellence led him to become further certified by the Diesel Institute for America in Landover, Maryland, in Diesel/Gasoline Engines, Electrical Systems, and Pumps. His mastery of these complex systems was not only a professional achievement but also a reflection of his lifelong love for learning and growth. James was the Chair of Trustees for the Men’s Group of William Taylor United Methodist Church. He also supported the church financially for more than 40 years. James also served as Vice President of the Union Hill Cemetery Association where he also maintained the land for many years. He financially supported it by purchasing several commercial riding mowers and drove from Corpus Christi weekly to physically cut the grounds without any help from the community. Beyond his professional and community endeavors, James’ heart was truly at home with his beloved wife, Maria R. Garcia, and his stepdaughter Sandra Ruiz. He also leaves to cherish his memories, his daughters Janie Saxton, Ellen Irving, and Rodney Garcia; 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and his sister-in-law Lena Garcia. He was also loved and cherished by his two surviving siblings Geneva Garcia Davis and Jerlene MC Clain, with whom he shared countless memories and an unbreakable bond. James was preceded in death by his beloved siblings Hattie Lamkin, Margie Crenshaw, Ruby Clay, Alvernia Garcia, and Valeria Ford. Each held a special place in his heart, and their memories were a source of comfort and strength throughout his life

Those who knew James will remember him as a man of honor, a mentor, and a friend. His unwavering dedication to his family, his career, and his country will serve as an inspiration to all. His legacy will continue to live on through the lives of those he loved and the countless individuals he impacted throughout his remarkable life. James Edward Garcia's story is one of commitment, love, and service. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary man, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will always be with us, guiding and encouraging us to live our lives with the same courage and devotion he embodied. James’ presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, especially by his devoted wife, Maria, his children, and his siblings.
