Jane Godines, born on December 5, 1939, in Alice, Texas, was a beacon of joy and kindness to all who knew her. On May 10, 2025, at the age of 85, Jane passed away peacefully in Corpus Christi, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
The daughter of Ignacio Godines and Francesca Salazar, Jane grew up in a household that valued family above all. She carried this value throughout her life, reflected in the close relationships she nurtured with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members.
Jane was the beloved mother of Elizabeth Martinez (married to Juan Cruz) and their children, Audrey, Victoria, Johnny, and Katie; Katherine Martinez and her children, Emily, Kimberly, Jason, and Rj; Juan Martinez (married to Debbie) and their children, Kelli, Stephanie, Jessica, and Jeremy; and Frank Martinez (married to Fela) and their children, Eric, Loren, Jack, Jakob and Brenda. She also held a special place in her heart for her "extended daughter/friend," Terry Almaguer. Jane's sisters Nena, Alda, and Lupe, along with her close cousin Ida, also survive her, along with numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom she adored.
Jane's love for her family was paralleled only by her passion for life's simple pleasures. She was an extraordinary baker, known for her delicious treats that would bring the family together on countless occasions. Her laughter was contagious, and her sense of humor brought light to even the darkest days. Jane found joy in watching her favorite game shows, always ready with a witty comment or an astute observation that would leave everyone in stitches.
Her love for antiquing was more than just a hobby; it was an expression of her appreciation for history and the stories that every unique piece held. Jane had a way of making every outing an adventure, and her enthusiasm was infectious.
Those who knew Jane would describe her as loving, kind, and funny. She was the matriarch who led with warmth and grace, teaching by example the importance of compassion and humor. Jane's presence was a comforting embrace to her family, a guiding light that will continue to shine in the hearts of those she loved.
Jane's absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with her. Her legacy is one of love and laughter, a testament to a life well-lived. As her family and friends bid farewell to this remarkable woman, they take solace in knowing that her spirit will live on through the countless memories they shared.
In her life, Jane Godines was a treasured soul who touched many with her loving heart. As we honor her memory, we celebrate the countless moments of joy she brought into our lives. Her laughter will echo in the stories retold, her recipes will continue to bring comfort, and her love will remain a guiding force for generations to come.
Jane's life was a journey marked by the love she gave and the love she received. As we say goodbye, we are grateful for the time we had with her and for the lessons she taught us through her unwavering kindness and infectious humor. Jane Godines will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever be a part of the fabric of the lives she touched.
