Janie Guerrero "Grandma" Valdez

Janie Guerrero Valdez also known as “Grandma” passed away on May 1, 2017 at the age of 79. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Grandma worked at Furr’s Cafeteria for 20+ years, she loved her coffee, and playing bingo. Grandma welcomed everyone into her home with open arms, and made sure they didn’t leave hungry. She never met a stranger, and will be truly missed by all who loved her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Martin P. Valdez; parents, Juan P. and Guadalupe Guerrero; siblings, Maria Rodriguez, Eugene Guerrero, and Tomasa Alvarez.

Janie is survived by her sons, Martin Valdez and Robert (Lisa) Valdez; sisters, Vicky Villegas and Olga Rios; brothers, Santiago (Lily) Guerrero, Ruben (Diana) Guerrero, and Juan (Irene) Guerrero; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces..

The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 5pm – 8pm at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara @ Port, with a holy rosary to be recited at 6pm. Rites of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 8, 2017 at 10am at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to Trevino Funeral Home to help the family pay for services.
