Joe Deleon Hernandez, born on July 3, 1953, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026. He is remembered with great respect and admiration by all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy shaped by his dedication, service, and heartfelt care for his family and beloved animals.
A proud US Army Veteran, Joe served his country with honor, earning recognition as a Sharpshooter with the National Defense Service Medal. His commitment to duty was a defining aspect of his life, reflecting the strength of character and resolve that marked his every endeavor.
Beyond his military service, Joe was a devoted caretaker of the animals close to his heart. He lovingly tended to his dogs and horse, nurturing them with the same dedication he showed to his family and community. This gentle and compassionate nature was a cornerstone of who he was.
Joe’s life will be celebrated with a dignified ceremony where pallbearers Jesse Villarreal, Ralph Villarreal, Louie Deleon, Ralph Hernandez, Roland Robles, Fernando Lozano, and honorary pallbearer, Joe Juarequi will carry him with honor, a testament to the deep respect and affection he inspired.
He is survived by his beloved son, Joe Juarequi; his two special nephews, Ralph Villarreal (Rosie) and Jesse Villarreal (Susie); his sisters, Carmen H. Ramos (Rupert) of Corpus Christi, TX, Patricia Scherson of Virginia Beach, VA, Rachel Solis of Idaho, Rosemary Cardenas of San Antonio, TX, Rebecca Silva of San Antonio, TX, and Rita Silva of San Antonio, TX; and his brothers, Johnny Silva and Roger Silva, both of San Antonio, TX. These cherished family members carry forward Joe’s memory, reflecting the strong bonds he nurtured throughout his life.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Merced Hernandez and Paula Deleon Hernandez, whose legacy lived on through their son’s remarkable life.
Joe Deleon Hernandez’s passage marks the loss of a devoted veteran, a caring family man, and a friend to all who crossed his path. His memory endures in the hearts of those who loved him and the many lives he touched with his unwavering spirit.
Joe’s family will receive condolences on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 9:30 AM until 11:30 AM, at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara @ Port Ave. A Holy Rosary will begin at 11:30 AM. Rite of Committal and Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
