Obituary

Joe Robert Estrada entered eternal life while surrounded by his loving family on June 23, 2026. He was born in Alice, Texas on January 27, 1976. Joe lived a life dedicated to his family and was a loving son, brother, uncle, and dear friend. He will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate to have known him and loved him.

Joe started his education at Salazar Elementary School in Alice, Texas until his family moved to Michigan in 1987. He continued his education in Michigan and graduated in 1994. He furthered his education by attending Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan and the University in Pennsylvania, where he studied the art of special effects-makeup.

Joe was a handsome, vibrant, and intelligent young man who was enjoying modeling and going to school, when at the age of 22 he was paralyzed from his waist down by a rare case of multiple sclerosis which left him in a wheelchair; however, it was during this time that he had the most wonderful experience of his life. His professor and classmates from Cornerstone University made it possible for him to go to the top of Mt. Everest, with the generous donation of a special handicap chair from Switzerland that made it possible to fulfill his dream.

Joe was active in school sports with track being his favorite. He also enjoyed playing video games, playing card games, watching Dead Pool superhero movies, and drawing and painting as he was an artist at heart. He also enjoyed listening to music by Frank Sanatra, Dean Martin, and Pedro Infante; but most of all he loved to hear his brother Gabriel sing mariachi songs.

Joe loved his mother’s tortillas and his Tia Viola’s gorditas. Christmas was his favorite holiday as it was a time of reminiscing, sharing a meal, joking, and laughing; but most importantly, family unity. Joe’s faith and trust in God’s will was strong, he eagerly awaited Sundays to be fed spiritually, as his brother Mark, a Eucharistic Minister, would bring him Holy Communion – the Body of Christ.

Joe was funny, he and his brother Ignacio would do comedy shows and record them on cassettes for family entertainment. He had a great sense of humor, was generous, kind, respectful, and forever grateful and thankful for all of his family’s love and support. His nieces and nephews were like his own children and he was always ready to guide and protect and enjoyed spending fun time with them.

Joe is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Gabriel and Paulita Estrada Sr; his maternal grandparents, Guadalupe and Sabas Aguilar; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Joe is survived by his loving parents, Gabriel Jr. and Maria Guadalupe “Lupita” Estrada; his brothers, Gabriel III (Elizabeth) Estrada, Mark Anthony (Rose) Estrada, and Ignacio Guadalupe (Jenny) Estrada; nieces and nephews, Juan Manuel, Emily Isabella, Alejandro Antonio, Marcus Guadalupe, Rafael Alfredo, Natalia-Gianna Gabriella Estrada; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Joe’s family will receive condolences Monday, July 6, 2026, at Trevino Funeral Home Alice, 120 E. Front St., from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM; with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 10:00 AM. Inurnment at Old Collins Cemetery will follow where Joe will be laid to rest in the Peace of Christ.
