Joe Ramos Jr

Joe Ramos, Jr passed away on February 7, 2021 at the age of 73.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.  He will be dearly missed by all whom knew and loved him.

Joe was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas.  Growing up, he enjoyed fishing, football, playing soldiers, and having fun with his siblings.  He often traveled to Garden City, Kansas to visit his grandparents and other family.  He had a big interest in cars, including repairing them, and always had to have the latest truck or sports car.  His Mach 1 was one of his most prized possessions.  Joe enjoyed his job at a supermarket, then later graduated from Harlandale High School in 1965 and wanted to serve his country.  He decided to join the U.S. Marine Corps and, after completing his training, served in Da Nang, Vietnam during the Vietnam War.  He was a valiant Marine and earned many awards, medals, and recognitions.

In 1972, he met and married his wife, Maria Francisca Valadez.  They loved spending time together, especially going out dancing.  They moved to Kingsville in 1986, where he worked as an electronic technician at the Naval Air Station.  In 1991, they welcomed their daughter, Amy.  They moved to Ingleside in 1994 and often traveled back to San Antonio to visit family.  Joe loved taking Maria and Amy out to eat, and Kiko’s was by far their most visited restaurant.  He loved board games and the family owned many and played them often. Any time Amy had any kind of presentation, performance, or recital, Joe and Maria were the first in line to get a great seat and support her.  He was such a proud father, and he made sure everyone knew it.  Joe loved his son-in-law, Kenneth, and from the moment he met him, Joe knew that Kenneth was the man he could give his daughter to.  Joe was known for his smile, which he wore all the time.

In later years, he and Maria loved to go on cruises to various places and did so often.  He was a member of Corpus Christi Christian Fellowship and attended faithfully.  He always enjoyed seeing and chatting with his church family.  Joe loved his grandchildren, Ellisyn and Eli, very much and spent time with them often.  He loved playing games with Ellisyn and letting her prepare meals (both real and Play-Doh) for him. He and Eli mostly spent time kicking a ball back and forth, or playing toy cars on the floor.

Joe was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.  Semper Fi.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Rodriguez Ramos, Sr and Refugia Valenzuela Ramos, and sisters, Barbara Gonzales and Herminia Monroe.

Joe is survived by his wife of 48 years, Maria Ramos; daughter, Amy (Kenneth) Villarreal; granddaughter, Ellisyn Villarreal; grandson, Eli Villarreal; brother, Luis Ramos; sisters, Maria Sanchez and Anna Marie Moreno; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family.

The family will receive condolences on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Corpus Christi Christian Fellowship Church, 6602 S.
