Jose Dolores Mejia

Jose “Paine” Dolores Mejia, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, at the age of 70. Born on February 28, 1955, Jose led a life rich in love, laughter, and community.

Jose was a devoted family man who found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was a loving husband to his wife, Sylvia Mejia, their partnership marked by mutual respect and shared dreams. Together, they raised a spirited family including their children, Marisa "Mari" Sanchez-Mejia (Michael Mendoza), Antonio Mejia (Tina S.), Yolanda Mejia Rodriguez, and Felipe Mejia.

As a proud grandfather, Jose adored spending time with his grandsons, Timothy "TJ" Valdez and Alejandro "AJ" Valdez, as well as his granddaughter, Ruth Montgomery. Mornings were particularly special for Jose as he would share breakfast with his boys, instilling in them the values of family, kindness, and hard work.

An avid football fan, Jose eagerly followed all football games, passionately discussing the games with friends and family. He also found pleasure in outdoor activities such as fishing, and truly relished the moments spent barbecuing with loved ones. His competitive spirit shined during bowling nights, where he brought both enthusiasm and camaraderie to the lanes.

Jose is remembered not only for his love of sports and family, but also for being a supportive presence in the lives of those around him. He leaves behind numerous siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and a special nephew, Rolando Mejia, who all held a special place in his heart.

Jose is preceded in death by his parents, Antonio Mejia and Raymunda Hernandez Mejia, and his sister, Lucia Mejia Hernandez. His legacy will continue to thrive in the hearts and memories of his family and friends who will carry forward the love and joy he shared throughout his life.

Jose’s family will receive condolences on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St. @ Port, from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM. Services will conclude in the chapel that evening.

In honor of his love for the sport, the family invites guests to wear their favorite football team jersey or football attire to celebrate his life.
