Jose Conrado Herrera

Jose Conrado Herrera, Sr., lovingly known as “Popal”, a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on July 6, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 83. Born on August 27, 1941, in Laredo, Texas, Jose was a man who brought joy and laughter to those around him.

Jose had a passion for games and delighted in spending time playing bingo, loteria, dice, and dominoes with friends and family. His playful nature shone through in these moments, creating memories that will be treasured by all who knew him. He enjoyed singing and dancing to Tejano and Country music. He also loved hunting with his son during deer season.

Jose and Charlotte were active members of the Old San Patricio World Championship Rattlesnake Races. They would hunt for rattlesnakes all year round and then they would go to the Freer Rattlesnake Roundup to display and sell the snakes.

Jose was a farmer by heart, taking care of the ranch and working with the cattle and farm animals. He also worked the fields with his tractor and planted crops, which was a joyful daily routine for him. In fact, he had a fond affection for his pet turkey, affectionately named "Mr. Turkey" who was a quirky and beloved companion in his life.

Jose is preceded in death by his parents, Conrado and Rosalinda Herrera; his daughter, Patricia Hinojosa; his granddaughter, Samantha Josephine Herrera; and his siblings, Ernestina Garcia, Margarita Renterria, Maria Herrera, Petra Garza, Angelita Benavides, Janie Herrera, Armando Herrera, Jose Garcia, and David G. Herrera Sr.

Jose is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife of 61 years, Charlotte Ann Herrera. Together, they built a warm and nurturing family which included their children, Cynthia (Carlos) Gomez, Ruby (Bill) Galle, Charlene (Gilbert) Casas, Jose (Crystal) Herrera, Jr., and David Hinojosa, Jr. Jose is also survived by his beloved sisters, Dominga Garcia, Estella (Antonio) Bueno, and Isabel (Jose Angel Longoria) Herrera, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. The love he shared with his family and friends was a testament to his kind spirit and unwavering support.

Jose Conrado Herrera leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will continue to light the hearts of his family and friends. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten and his spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched throughout his journey.
