Obituary

Jose Ramirez Jr, affectionately known as JR, passed peacefully into eternal life while surrounded by his loving family on July 14, 2026, in Houston, Texas. Throughout his 36 years, JR touched the hearts of family and friends with his warmth, dedication, and unwavering commitment to those he loved.

JR was a faithful and loving husband, father, son, and dear friend whose greatest source of pride was undoubtedly his cherished children. Nothing brought him greater happiness than supporting and cheering his children on, in every school and sports activity—they were his proudest accomplishments. The joy he felt in their successes was matched only by the steadfast encouragement and love he showed them every single day.

JR’s life overflowed with happiness, joy, and his wonderful sense of humor. He looked forward to weekends at the beach, fishing and gathering with family and friends to barbecue while listening to Tejano music; especially listening to Los Temerarios. He also loved taking long trips and enjoying the scenery along the way. JR was child-like when it came to driving in the lightning and rain, without windshield wipers, listening to the thunder, which was music to his ears.

JR’s passion was food, he loved his mother’s homemade enchiladas, tacos de lengua, and her banana bread; actually, anything sweet was delicious to him. Another love was his Dodge Ram truck, for burnouts and speeding.

JR was the #1 fan of the LSU football team, the Alice Coyotes football team, and the AFYL Steelers Youth football team; he also enjoyed the Hooks baseball games. He supported all sports activities.

JR worked in the oilfield industry with Axis Energy, Key Energy, and Ranger Energy, where he demonstrated the professional work ethics of punctuality, hard work, respect, honesty, and teamwork with kindness, humor, and generosity.

JR was very proud of Anika for attending college and receiving her Phlebotomy certification and he encouraged her to further her education to become a Registered Nurse; just like he encouraged his children to get a good education.

Left to cherish JR’s memories is his love at first sight beloved wife, Anika Garza Ramirez; his children, Edalyiah Ramirez, Brayden Ramirez, Ezekiel Ramirez, Alexavier Ramirez, Divinitty Castillo, Jose Ramirez III, and Mckenzii Soliz; his parents, Jose and Olga Ramirez Sr; father-in-law, Edmundo (Clarisa Garcia) Garza; mother-in-law, Monica (Elias) Dimas; grandparents/God parents, Edmundo and Jesusa Garza; his sisters, Diana (Johnny) Sendejo and Olga Lydia (Idaceli) Limas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Amanda Garza, Victor (Erika) Benavides, Ruben (Marisol) Benavides, Victoria (Jim) Landereth, Edy Garza, Eddie (Leann) Marin; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

JR is proceeded in death by his maternal grandmother, Concepcion Martinez; paternal grandparents, Francisco and Guadalupe Ramirez; in-law grandparents, Amado and Lydia Garza; aunt, Manuela Mojica; uncle, Albert Ponce; and niece, Aubrey Elizabeth Sendejo.

JR’s family will receive condolences on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Treviño Funeral Home Alice, 120 E. Front St., from 10:00 AM until 12:30 PM, with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 11:00 AM. A Funeral cortege will depart from the funeral home at 12:30 PM to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 1:00 PM. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Alice Cemetery, where JR will be laid to rest in the Peace of Christ.

Family, both immediate and extended, meant everything to JR. His integrity, compassion, and enthusiastic spirit of love will live on, as he would say, “One love Ramirez love”.

Honoring JR as pallbearers are Olga Lydia Limas, Victor Benavides, Johnny Sendejo, Ruben Benavides, Alexavier Benavides, and Frank Gonzalez. Honorary pallbearers are Jose Ramirez Sr, Edmundo Garza, Noe Garcia, and Gabriel Garza.
